Crap, I'm a girl.
I get hit on by my ex-counselor
I pause on the threshold of Cabin 9, breathing in the soft scents of smoke and metal. Home. It smells like home. And, to a demigod, home is important.
“What are you waiting for? Go in,” Piper pushes me forwards, towards Jake Mason who looks much better since Apollo fixed him up in gratitude after the war.
He wolf-whistles.
Gah. This is so embarrassing.
“Yo, Piper! Why are you forcing your sister to live with us ugly lot?” He says, grinning. He winks at me. No. No way am I that attractive. This is not happening. Please say this is not happening.
“Talk for yourself!” Nyssa shouts, and throws her hairbrush at him from her bunk. I hurriedly move backwards, as that thing can be deadly. Trust me, I speak from experience.
Legs sprout from the hairbrush as it comes in contact with Jake’s skin. Pincers grow and fasten onto his nose. Laughing, he pulls it off. “You’ll have to do better than that, sis,” he shouts at her, and Nyssa harrumphs good naturedly, withdrawing her bunk from view.
Naturally, I make a beeline towards my bunk, the one I vacated unknowingly earlier today. It still smelled reassuringly male, with hints of tabasco sauce and engine oil.
“Hey!” Jake catches my arm, holding on for longer than seems appropriate. I glare at him, and he drops his hand. He smiles winningly at me before pushing me towards a regular, standard, pathetic and totally uncool bunk by the door near his. Great.
“That bunk is for Leo. He’s our counsellor. He would be here, but I guess he’s at Bunker 9.”
“But I’m-” I can’t speak. Damn you, Lyssa. Damn you for all eternity.
“Anyways, Aphrodite girls, what are you doing here?” He looks at me, then to Piper, who I’d forgotten was standing by the door.
“This is your sister, Cleo. Look after her.” Piper turns around and leaves. Hmm. She’s less friendly than she used to be.
“Cleo?”
I look up and nod quietly. “That’s me,” I confirm.
“Hestaphus? Really?”
“Sure.” I say, unwilling to go into any more detail.
He hold out his hand. “I’m Jake Mason.”
I take it, saying “I know-” Shit. Still can’t talk about being Leo.
“You do?” He looks surprised. Still holding my hand, he pulls me slightly closer, staring into my eyes. Does he recognise me? “It must be fate.” He says.
I want to scream at him. Why is he hitting on me? Kids of the same godly parent ARE. NOT. SUPPOSED. TO. HIT. ON. EACH. OTHER. “No, Piper told me,” I lie smoothly.
“Oh,” he says, letting go of my hand. “I guess you want to sleep, then.”
“Thank you.”
Taking one last look at my old bunk, I lie on the crappy bunk and Jake stands next to it.
“Now, you press-”
I ignore him, punch a few buttons, and withdraw into the room below. His shocked face is all I see before-
Shit. This was a girl’s bunk, wasn’t it? This fricking room is bright pink.
I close my eyes and blackout.
Notes
I thought it would be funny to do a chapter where 'Cleo' has to go through the introduction to Cabin 9 again and him not being able to say anything. Thanks for all the support on this story!
@Tmcar1!
Sorry about that! I'll do that from now on. :/
