Deadly Relations
The Return
Percy pushed himself out of the taxi and stood on the side of the road. Looking around him he knew it seemed like he was in the middle of nowhere but he was at his real and true home.
He paid the bewildered looking taxi driver and grabbed his duffel bag.
Percy looked up the familiar hill at the towering pine at the top. He could see the golden fleece hanging from the branches.
Percy climbed up the hill and stood next to Thalia’s Pine. He rested his hand on the rough bark and gazed down into the camp. Camp Half-Blood.
The Big House stood tall with its blue and grey color scheme and the cabins numbered close to 60 in Percy’s guess. The rock climbing wall spewed its lava and the canoe lake shimmered in the sun. Percy inhaled the fresh smell of strawberries. He was home. A grin spread on his face and he started the walk into the camp.
Coming down the hill Percy noticed that the number of campers had to be well into the 400’s. The last time he was here full time there had been around 80 campers.
Percy reached the bottom of the hill and headed for the Big House.
Percy could see a group of campers playing volleyball and even some shooting hoops at the basketball court.
A few other campers ran by and each one gave him a weird look. They were all young. So far Percy had seen absolutely no campers he recognized.
Percy reached the Big House and stepped onto the porch. The boards creaked under his feet and he approached the front door.
Percy could see the rocking chair he had sat in on his very first visit to camp. Grover had been there and so had Annabeth. A stab of pain shot through Percy’s chest. He hadn’t seen Annabeth since the fight. He missed her.
Voices brought Percy out of his thoughts. They were approaching the door. One voice he didn’t recognize and the other brought a sense of warmth through Percy.
Chiron sounded agitated, “Zak we simply can’t put off the maintenance at the outpost any longer. They’ve been sending Iris Messages for days. Please ask Aether for more supplies.”
The voice answered back, “Chiron you have to understand. Aether is a busy deity. He’s sending what he can and when he can.”
The door swung open and Percy found himself looking into the eyes of two surprised men. Well a surprised man and a surprised Centaur.
“Percy my boy! It is good to see you,” Chiron said clapping him on the shoulder. “Gods I had forgotten your last term had ended. Anyway welcome back!”
“Thanks Chiron, it’s good to be back.” Percy said back.
“Where are my manners? Percy this is Zak Bennet; he is a general of Aether.”
The man stuck his hand out. He was tall and built with muscle. He had short cropped blonde hair. He was dressed in all black.
Percy shook his hand, “Percy Jackson, its good to meet you.”
“The same to you Mr. Jackson.” He turned to Chiron. “Now I must really be getting back to Aether.” He was gone in a flash of light.
Percy looked at Chiron, “He’s working with the Aether?”
“Yes Percy. While you’ve been gone and have had your head in the books, some problems have come to our attention.”
“What kind of problems? Percy asked.
Chiron looked at him and then rubbed his beard, “We will discuss this matter further at another time. For now, Percy, you need to go get moved back into your cabin and meet your sibling.”
Percy’s mouth dropped, “My what?”
“You have a brother. His name is Jax. He’s been here for about three months. He’s been dying to meet you.” Chiron answered.
