Deadly Relations

Percy walked towards the cabins.
He was so shocked that he walked right past the Poseidon cabin and into the new section of cabins. Originally there had been a U shape of the 12 Gods on the council, now there were three full circles of cabins.
Percy turned back and went into the Poseidon cabin.
It had definitely changed. The bunk beds had been moved out and there were two queen size beds taking up the middle of the room. The fountain Poseidon had given Percy was on the back wall and still bubbling.
In one of the beds was a boy and a girl tangled up in the sheets.
Percy dropped his bag and cleared his throat.
The boy and the girl shot up.
The boy had brown hair and sea green eyes like Percy. He was about the same height as Percy, he could only assume that this was his half-brother Jax.
The other girl Percy knew.
“Percy?” She asked.
“Katie it’s good to see you.” Percy replied looking away. She was wearing the sheet, just the sheet.
“I’m sorry.” She said getting dressed. When she finished she dashed out of the room.
Percy looked back at Jax and found him with shorts on.
“So,” He said. “You’re Percy. I’ve heard a lot about you. You were the big hero around here before you ran off to college.”
Percy dropped his bag, “I wouldn’t call myself a hero, but I did what I had to do to save my friends.”
“Huh, well taking on Kronos and fighting Gaea seems a little extreme to protect your friends.”
Percy could hear a little resentment in his voice. He needed to change the subject.
“So Jax, tell me how you got here. You are what?” Percy judged him. “16 or 17? A little old to be at camp for just three months.”
Jax sat on the bed, “I’m 18. And I was hidden and trained by my mom, and also dad visited every few months and helped me with my abilities.”
Percy felt a pang of jealousy, Poseidon had never visited him to help with his abilities.
“That was my life until three months ago. Eat, sleep, and then train. One-day dad came and said it was time to come here. And so here I am.”
Percy nodded, “I wish my arrival had been that simple. So do you like camp?”
“Oh yeah definitely.” Jax said smiling.
Percy laughed, “So you and Katie Gardner huh? How’d that happen?”
“Well she showed me around on the first day. I made her laugh a little. Then I asked her on a date, and its been great from there on.”
“Does uh, does Chiron know about the um, alone time?” Percy asked.
Jax stood up and grabbed a shirt, “No, and he’s not going too.”
And with that he walked out the door.
Percy grabbed his bag and slid it under the other queen bed and pulled of his hoodie he was wearing. He took his sneakers off and put flip flops on and left the cabin.
Percy headed for the canoe lake. Along the way a few familiar campers ran up Percy recognized. Pollux from Dionysus, Butch from Iris, Will Solace from th Apollo cabin. Percy was glad to see some people he knew and who knew him.
After chatting for a while Percy continued to the lake and jumped in. He sat on the bottom and let his mind wander.
He thought about Jax and the mysterious upbringing and why his father never mentioned him.
He thought about how different the camp was.
And he finally thought about Annabeth and the last time he had seen her.
Percy was supposed to meet her for their three-year anniversary date but he had run late again. He had gotten a job at an aquarium in San Francisco and they stuck him with a longer shift. By the time he had gotten to the date Annabeth was mad.
He had tried to explain but she got more upset and started yelling and then Percy had yelled back and they somehow ended up breaking up.
Percy had felt empty ever since.
He was brought out of his thoughts by the horn blast signaling dinner.
Percy willed himself to fly up through the water and he shot out onto the deck. Percy could see the campers walking towards the pavilion.
Percy followed after them.
