Deadly Relations
24 Hours
Percy made one observation when he first started fighting against Jax.
He was pretty damn good. He fought well compared to others, but even then he wasn't much.
Jax attacked with ferocity and quickness but he wasn’t good enough to press Percy. Percy blocked and parried easily. He wasn’t even breaking a sweat.
After a few more minutes of useless fighting Percy decided to end it. He pressed in and knocked Jax’s hand away and brought Riptide down on Jax’s sword right by the hilt. It cracked and shattered.
Percy kicked Jax backwards and he flipped over the Poseidon table.
The crowd of campers, who had been cheering, went silent.
Percy turned and looked at the campers, many of them were staring with open mouths. Percy realized that Jax was their champion just as Percy had been the champion during his time. They would crack and crumble if Percy defeated Jax.
Percy knew what he would have to do.
He walked to Jax and stood over him.
Jax looked at him with confusion and then grinned.
He pulled a knife from behind him and thrusted it into Percy’s thigh.
Percy cried out and grabbed his leg and dropped. Jax jumped up and kicked Percy in the stomach. Percy’s breath left him.
Jax picked him up and slammed him into the Poseidon table. Percy slid onto the ground. His vision started to go black.
Jax stood over Percy, “Pushover.”
Percy looked up and saw Jax’s foot fall towards his face and then everything went black.
“Percy, can you hear me?” A voice called.
Percy groaned and opened his eyes. It was bright and warm, he had to be in the Apollo cabin.
Percy hurt all over, especially in his chest and legs.
“Percy look at me.” The voice called again.
Percy looked to his left and found a girl looking at him.
She had brown hair and startling blue eyes.
“Who are you?” Percy asked. His voice came out hoarse.
She stood and walked across the room and grabbed a bottle of water and brought it to him. “My name is Grace Mathews. I’m a daughter of Apollo, I’ve been helping you get better.”
Percy rubbed his face as the memory of what happened came back to him.
“How long have I been out?” He asked.
“It’s been almost 24 hours since Jax left for the outpost. Do you remember what happened?”
Percy sat up to his bodies protest, “Not after getting kicked in the face.”
Grace smiled, “He beat you for about 10 more minute after that. Butch and Katie finally pulled him off you. Will and I brought you here.”
Percy sighed and looked at himself. His thigh was bandaged along with his chest. He stood up and pain shot all over his body.
“Who is in charge at the outpost?” Percy asked.
Grace started to speak but she was interrupted by a voice at the door, “The Seven are in charge of the outpost, or the seven minus you.”
The voice belonged to Chiron. He was stooping to look in the cabin. “Percy how are you feeling?”
Percy tried to walk to him but he started to fall. Grace caught him and supported him, “I’m fine.”
Chiron looked at him, “Percy I hate to ask this but that outpost will not be there much longer. Jax isn’t helping anything. He’s clashing with, er, Annabeth.”
Percy dropped his head, “I’ve got to go to them.”
Grace spoke up, “Um no. You are in no condition to even walk. You can’t go out to a battle and fight.”
Percy pushed off of Grace and poured the bottle of water on his head. He instantly gained strength and straightened up and walked. He had a slight limp still but it was better.
“I’m going.” Percy walked out the door and past Chiron and headed for the Poseidon cabin.
