Powerful Secret
The Discussion
It was 6 o’clock and I was playing in a river like a five year old, for twenty minutes, trying to learn how to make a bit of the water disobey the current. Percy easily made the water jump over some rocks, and disobey the current. I couldn't do it if my life depended on it, which I might. Suddenly a horn blew in the distance. It was time for dinner. Percy got out of the water first and shockingly his feet were completely dry.
“How are you dry?” I asked him while I was still in the water.
“It's a Poseidon blessing.” He said “I only get wet when I want to get wet.” I stepped out of the stream hoping for the same result. Shockingly they were dry too.
“That's so cool!” I said.
“Yup.” He said through his smile. We both put our shoes and socks back on, and walked to the pavilion talking about Poseidon. The way Percy described him made me want to meet him, a lot. Percy also said he could breathe underwater and that sounded awesome. We reached the pavilion and Annabeth came up to us.
“Hey Ashlynn.” She said.
“Hey.” I responded. Percy leaned over and gave her a soft kiss on the cheek. She whispered something and Percy's smile got bigger.
“What is it?” I asked.
“My... I mean our brother is here.” He said. I smiled at the thought of having another brother.
“Where is he?” I asked.
“Apparently he is at the pavilion already.” Percy said. I was very excited to meet him I ran up the hill. “Ashlynn there is something about him I need to tell you about first.” I didn't listen. Like I said before I played soccer so I could out run a lot of things. Percy was one of them. I was in the pavilion and his back was too me. I walked up to him and tapped him on the shoulder. He turned around. I looked into his eyes, no his eye. I was petrified with fear. I couldn't scream. Percy was entering the pavilion right there and then. “Ashlynn” he said while out of breath “this is Tyson, your brother.” Percy then fell to the ground. “You, Ashlynn, are an extremely fast runner.” He started calming down.
“Are you okay?” I asked him. Getting over the cyclops standing in front of me.
“Yes.” He said, then he stood up. He immediately sat down next to Tyson.
“What did you mean by brother?” He asked Percy. Percy smiled his huge smile.
“This is Ashlynn your sister.” Percy replied.
“SISTER!” He said. He stood up and hugged me, really, really, really tight. I heard something crack, and felt a burning pain in the left side of my chest. I bit my tongue, trying not to cry. Tyson dropped me on the ground. Percy ran to my side.
“Big guy, you can't hug people that tight!” He yelled.
“Sorry I forgot.” Tyson replied. Breathing started to hurt. I realised I broke a rib.
“I have a broken rib.” I said. Everyone was staring at me again. “Meals at this camp hate me.” I mumbled. I looked up and saw Will sprinting over to me.
“You will be okay.” He told me.
“Yeah I know.” I replied. I started to stand up. It hurt like hell.
“Are you crazy?!” Will exclaimed.
“Yes, yes I am.” I responded. He didn't argue and I didn't know why. He actually helped me up. “Thanks.” I said.
“No problem?” He said like it was a question. I sat down at the table. Before you ask, yes I know I'm crazy.
“Percy can you get me food?” I asked him.
“Are you sure you don't want Will to heal you?” He asked back. I rolled my eyes.
“Yes, I'm sure. That will make him weak, besides after I am done eating I will go jump in the lake.” I said. He laughed, so I started laughing. It hurt, a lot.
“Damn. If I were you I would be crying, and begging for a doctor.” Jason said.
“Luckily I'm not you.” I said. “Have you spoken to Nico yet?” I asked.
“Yes.” Nico responded for him.
“Oh.” I said. While still in a lot of pain. “How long do we have till this quest begins?”
“We don't know.” Jason said.
“Okay.” I said “Will it be dangerous?”
“Of course.” Percy said as he sat down next to me with my plate of food.
“Thanks.” I said, and bit into the burger on my plate. Once the food hit my stomach it hurt a lot. I winced after every bite. The pain eventually turned into annoyance. There was no more pain, it felt like someone was poking me with a stick. “Why will it “of course” be dangerous?” I asked.
“Do you want me to list all of the reasons?” Nico asked. I shrugged.
“Okay. One, there are four of us.” Jason butted in.
“More than three demigods attracts many monsters.” Percy finished. I shook my head in agreement.
“Two,” Nico said “we are all children of the big three.”
Jason butted in, again “Which means we give off a greater smell, which will attract more monsters.”
“Speaking of,” Percy said “you are a child of three gods, how did you not attract monsters before?”
“I don't know,” I said “I might have, actually.”
“What do you mean?” Nico asked. I tried to remember an incident that happened when I was five.
“Well, when I was five” I started “I remember a giant black dog destroyed the first floor of my house. At the time I screamed and ran into the kitchen where my mom was, she grabbed a bronze knife and ran in and killed the thing. After she did she told me to go to bed, even though it was only 5:00. I obviously obeyed her. I heard her yelling at someone saying that they broke their deal, because I wasn't safe. The person responded with “She shall be safe until she turns 16 then she must protect herself.” I turned 16 6 days ago, but here’s the really weird part.”
“Because that wasn't weird?” Percy asked.
“Shut up.” I said “Any way the next morning there was no damage to the house and my mom told me it was only a nightmare. She always acted more alert since that night. I didn't know what to think of this I was 5. I have also never been attacked since that night.” Percy stared at me like I won the lottery.
“So you haven't been attacked since you were five, because the gods protected you?” Percy practically yelled.
“I guess, what happened to you?” I asked. Percy’s eyes looked like an ocean during a hurricane, absolutely terrifying.
“MY MOM MARRIED AN ASS HOLE!” He screamed. Everyone stared again, and the attention was killing me. “She married a guy named Gabe. He abused her but he gave off a horrible smell, and it masked me from the monsters. MY MOM ALLOWED HERSELF TO GET ABUSED SO I COULD BE SAFE!”
“Percy, I'm sorry.” I said.
“Sorry ain't gonna cut it.” He said as he stormed out of the pavilion. Annabeth stood up and ran after him.
“Is he aware that that wasn't my fault?” I asked.
“I don't think it's you, I think it's the gods.” Jason said. We sat in silence for the rest of the meal. There was no annoying poking in my side, until I asked Jason and Nico to help me up, because everyone else was leaving. It felt like my ribs were being broken again. Nico left us, and headed for his cabin with Will. (I didn't want to know). Jason helped me over to the lake. It was a long and silent walk.
“Thanks.” I said.
“No problem.” He responded as he shoved me into the water.
Notes
I know this chapter was boring but it was extremely nessecary for the plot.
