After I had gotten him a shower, and some fresh clothes, I managed to get him a freshly baked batch of blueberry muffins and a bottle of water. By the time, I returned Athos had managed to get dress and equipt his sword on the holister of his belt. He looked better now, without the dirt and dust covering his face and most of his head.
Smiling, I handed him the bottle of water and batch of muffins. "I got the bakery to give me these and a bottle of water free of charge. They're blueberry." I smiled.
"Thanks." He smiled, taking the pasteries and beginning to slowly and carefully eat them. By the time, we arrived at the field of Mars he had already eaten all the muffins and drank the water. Calmly, he stood next to Bella and Sean.
Filing in line, I tood my stand within the ranks of the fifth cohort. Bella gazed at me, uneasied yet intrigued. With a deep breath, she nodded as everyone fell silent. "We are all here gathered for two purposes. The first one is as always: for our evening war games. The second reason is because of a new recruit." She turned and glanced at him.
It was faint, but for a moment, I thought I saw a twinkle in her eye. Almost as if she were interested in him. Glancing at Sean, He smiled. I wanted to talk to him. I had been so distracted with everything else that I didn't get a chance to hang out with my best friend. I really enjoyed being alongside him in the senate meeting and in the fifth cohort, but aside from that, we were on opposite spectrums.
Focusing on him, I gave him that we need to talk look. Appearently the daughters of Minerva gave that look. I had never tried it on purpose. But considering I really wanted to, I had to give it a shot.
"Athos here, is in desperate need of a cohort." Bella announced. "Do you have papers?" She turned to him. Questioning what she meant, he shook his head no. "Can anyone stand for him? Does anyone believe in Athos' prowess as a warrior, a man and more importantly a demigod."
Rising my hand, I held a serious gaze. I knew that Athos needed someone. A person to help him and confide in him, the exact same way Sean need in me. "I stand for him. I. Jasmine, daughter of Minerva and ambassador of Minerva pledge my life, to protect, serve and see to it that Athos and the Legions codes are met by him."
Nodding Bella gazed at him. "Athos, it seems like you've been accepted into a cohort. Be proud, and don't let them down. You've been drafted into a reformed cohort who has so far reaquired their respect. It would be a waste if your presence were to disrupt their progression." Calmly walking away, the legion filed double lines towards the fortress for battle.
"Don't let her physic you out." I smiled. "Bella isn't typically that talkative towards new recruits. So it's obviously a good thing." In a shadow, I gazed up to see Sean.
"Jasmine's right." He said. "If anything, I'd say Bella thinks your special. Do you have any special talents?" He asked.
Flicking his fingers, Athos caused the earth to quake. "Just that, but the most I can do is navigate tunnels and rocks. Why is that special or something?" He asked.
I laughed. "You're kinda clueless sometimes. That means that you've narrowed down you godly parent to two possibilities! It could be Neptune, the god of earquakes or Pluto, the god of riches."
"Either way, it's kinda cool." Sean added. "No come on, let's go rack up another victory for the fifth."
The field of Mars was ready to go by time, we got there. I decided to from a plan that would effectively get us to the forntier without having us be attacked or impeeded by enemies. After going over the plan with Sean and Athos four or five times, we all decided for it.
The rest of our cohort would side with the third and fourth on a more direct attack, as a back up option. When the conch blew, I rose to my feet ready for battle. Gazing at Athos I smiled.
"This is your time to shine." I admitted. "You ready?" I asked. Nodding, he took a deep breath and launched out an explosive shockwave that cause the earth to burrow. Forming a progressive shield, we began our advance. Athos was in the front, making sure the shield held, while I helped him with navigations from the back.
It didn't take long for us to arrive at the base of the frontier. Taking a deep breath, Athos mustered up all his strength before launching us to the air. Once we arrived, I gazed at the near by enemies. In a storm, Athos knocked out our enemies and secured his way toward the flag. Turning around, I realized something was wrong.
"Athos, wait!" I called. In an ambush, five legionaires appeared out of darkness, one knotched an arrow at his thig, causing him to fall to one knee. Pain held on his face, as he bore his eyes filled with anger at the enemies.
In a battle cry, he pulled out the arrow, as he charged. Quickly he smacked his enemies with his sword. Blades masked each other as the sounds of metal could be heard. Turning around in a swirl of descord and array, Athos single handedly took down five enemies at once. Turning he faced the last one.
He skulked with a frightning demenor as he gazed at his enemy. The bowmen. It was him, who did this to Athos. He made him like this. It wasn't any other person but himself. He was to blame for the monster he created.
Calmly, the bowmen ran afriad. Athos smiled, as he walked over and reached for the flag. Second later, he plummited to the floor. With a smile on his face, he laughed. "Are you sure I can't be a child of Mars? I mean I did just defeat five legionaires with just my anger." I shook my head a bit imbarrassed and a little happy.
This time, the kid was good. But my main question was, if he was this good without being claimed, would that mean that he becomes better?
Turning back I gazed off in the distance, as I marked the hill top I noticed Bella with burnoculers, watching from afar. I took a deep breath, and returned my gaze at Athos.
Bella: "Hmm, Well then I guess I made the right choice. Athos, I wounder who your father is?"
Jasmine: "I wonder who your father is?"
