The Demigod Games

Chapter 33

Sienna:

After spending 2 days locked up in my room crying, the light of the airy throne room hurts. As I’m lead to my spot next to Percy, I see some of the gods and goddesses wrinkle their noses in contempt as they take my appearance in.
Aside from showers and food, I hadn’t bothered to get out of bed up until now. My eyes are red and puffy from crying, my hair looks like a rat nest and my leg won’t stop shaking. When I glance at Percy next to me, I notice that he doesn’t look much different than me. The death of Annabeth obviously affected him just as much as Jake’s death affected me.
All around me, I hear the gods and goddess’s whispers. As I look at the deities sitting on their thrones above me, I have the urge to leap at them and claw their eyes out. But since I would be dead before I tried, I settle for staring daggers at whoever dares meet my eyes.
“Attention everyone.” A voice booms out above me. Everyone instantly quiets down and my father looks down to observe Percy and I.
“As a prize for winning the games, each of the victors gets one wish granted by the gods. If it is something within our abilities, the wish will be granted.” Zeus announces. “You have 5 minutes to think about it.”
I look at Percy as his eyes light up with hope. Almost immediately I know what he’s going to ask for. I wish I could ask for the same thing, but I know that I need to request something else.
After the 5 minutes are over, I hear my father again. “Perseus Jackson, you will be heard out first.”
Percy clears his throat and looks at Zeus square in the eye. True to my prediction, he asks for what I thought. “I want Annabeth back. I want her back exactly as she was. Alive and well with her old personality. Like Hazel was when Nico brought her back.”
As soon as Percy’s finished, the throne room erupts with whispers. “SILENCE.” Zeus roars. Again, the room returns to it’s silent state. Zeus looks at Hades for permission. Hades nods, grumbling under his breath. Zeus looks back at Percy. “You will have your wish granted. Annabeth will be waiting outside the throne room.”
“Thank you.” Percy says, hope flooding his face.
“Sienna, my daughter. What do you wish?” Zeus asks studying me.
For a moment I consider asking for Jake back. But I know I can’t. I take a deep breathe before I make my request.
“I want a promise. I want you to swear on the River Styx. I want you to swear that you will never, ever do anything like this again.” I say. And before I can stop myself, more words fall out. “I want you to swear that you will not do this, that you will not make demigods, your sons and daughters fight to the death, or hurt each other. This was senseless, all done for your the sake of your petty pride.” I spit. As I finish, there’s an uproar of gods and goddesses shouting at me. I stare back, unfazed at their hatred raining down around me.
“SHUT UP.” Athena yells, silencing everyone. An astonished look falls on their face as they turn to face her. “The child has a point. This slaughtering of our children was pointless.”
“The kids has no say in our decisions. She downright insulted us. Why should we give this so her?” Ares grumbles glaring at her.
“We should give it to her because she’s right. We let Percy rise my daughter from the dead. What Sienna is asking for is preventing senseless deaths. We’ve already proven who were the most powerful. Give the girl what she wants.”
“You don’t have the final say in this. Dad does.” Ares challenges.
“Athena’s right. The murder of the children was completely senseless.” Zeus says. “Sienna, I agree to grant you your wish.. Everybody must swear on the River Styx to abide with her terms.”
I hear grumbles of protest as I nod. “Thank you.”
Zeus nods and everyone swears the binding oath. When its done, Percy and I are to be escorted out. All the gods and goddesses stand up and leave. Right as I’m about to open the door, I feel someone grab my shoulder.
I turn around, facing Aphrodite. When I see her, I feel a pit on anger open up in my stomach. She said she would help. But she never did. “What do you want?” I hiss.
Aphrodite raises her eyebrow. ”Well, that wasn’t the welcome I was expecting.” she says. I open my mouth, about to fire off an angry rant when she cuts me off. “You know that promise I made you before you entered the arena?”
“How could I not? It was a pretty useless promise.”
“Gods and goddesses couldn’t interfere during the game dearie. But I was able to cash in a favor with someone. I don’t break my promises.” She snaps.
I’m about to ask her what she means before she snaps her fingers and disappears. I refuse to let myself have any hope. I walk out of the throne room, and the first thing I see is Percy and Annabeth embracing. My heart clenches painfully as I watch them. Tears begin to well up and I continue walking at a faster pace.
“Wait.” I hear someone call behind me. I turn around and I come face to face with Annabeth.
“I’m so sorry.” I say looking down.
“You had to do what you had to do. I’m not angry at you for doing so.” Annabeth says softly. I look up at her, and I see that all the anger and resentment she held towards me was gone.
I nod, forcing my tears down. “I’ll see you at Camp Half-Blood.” I say. She smiles as she walks back to Percy. I turn around and run all the way back to my apartment.
When I enter, Quinn is on the couch watching tv. He opens his mouth to speak, but I rush to my room. I throw open the door and slam it, not bothering to turn on the light. I collapse on the bed and I begin to cry.
I hold a pillow, trying to dry my tears, but they just keep coming. I tense as I feel someone sit on the bed next to me. I spin around, striking the person in the stomach. The figure falls to the ground and lets out a familiar grunt of pain. I freeze when I hear it, turning on the lamp. On the floor, a blonde boy cradles his stomach while letting out a laugh.
“Well that wasn’t the welcome I was expecting.” he grins looking up at me.
I start crying as I fling myself at him, burying my face into his shoulder. I feel his arms wrap around me in his comforting embrace.
“Don’t cry.” he whispers, wiping my eyes.
“Is it really you?”
“Aphrodite made sure it was.” he says nuzzling my neck. Jake hugs me closer, kissing me.

We stay there on the floor, hugging and whispering until we fall asleep.
