I sit on the dock with my english homework at about 4 in the afternoon.

"Who cares what a predicate nominative is ?" I mutter and look down at the water to see something in it. I put my homework off to the side and lean forward toward the shape in the water.

"What?" I say, leaning forward even farther and the shape shoots up towards my face.

When the water clears out, I see a giant see serpent. My first thought was, Nessie?

Then it picks me up and throws me into the air.

At first I was like, yay no homework! Then I saw the ground flying towards me. Shoot.

"AHHHHH!!!!!!" I scream and try to soften my landing as I hit the ground and black out from the pain.

Last thought going through my head? I'm gonna be out a while...

I wake up to people whispering and surrounding me.

"Came out of the sky-"

"Who is she?"

And stuff like that. Huh. Guess I wasn't out as long as I thought.

I open my eyes to see a lot of heads looking down at me. I try to sit up, and have a major headache- but nothing else, so I stand up and people begin to crowd me like paparazzi to a celebrity.

"Ok Ok BACK AWAY PEOPLE!!" someone yells as everyone walks away, grumbling. I see a girl with brown hair and brown eyes with hair clips that had chains attached to a mini bow, and the other one was... an arrow sheath? She had a sword at her hip, and a black dog was tagging along behind her.

"Hi, I'm Samantha Hamper," the girl with the hair clips says, "but you can call me Sam."

"Im Catherine," I say, "and thanks." I shake her hand.

I was about to ask where I was- when some kid yells, "Percy's Back!" and everyone starts rushing toward a hill.

I follow Sam towards the hill to see everyone crowding someone with black hair. We make eye contact and his eyes are sea green.
"excuse me," the guy says, making his way through the condensed crowd and finally stopping in front of me.

"Who's this?" he asks.

"Percy, this is Catherine. She fell out of the sky- literally," Sam says.

"Hi," I say, nervously. The black haired teen studies me intensely, like he was trying to figure out the best way to say 'I'm sorry, but you look suspicious'.

"Soooo... undetermined?" he asks, and Sam nods.

"Alright lets go find out," he says, gesturing towards people gathering around a campfire.

"Uh, and you think I'm just going to come with you like that? No thanks," I say.

"Why not?" Percy and Sam say at the exact same time.

"Because I have to go home- you know, mom, family?" I say even though I only have one of those- and she's not very nice. At all.
Percy sighs. "Let's see... Sam, how about you break to her the whole 'You're-a-demigod speech?" he says.

Sam gives an annoyed look at him, then says to me, "You remember those old Greek myths? Like the gods of Olympus?"

"Doesn't everyone? But they're myths," I say.

"... That's the thing," Sam says slowly. "They're... not myths."

I scoff. "So what, I'm going to find that some... I don't know... tree nymph is going to rant at me for burning an evergreen? Riiiiiight."

Sam saw that she obviously wasn't convincing me, so she turned to Percy, then ever so slightly, nodded.

Percy slowly raised both hands, like he was trying to... well, I don't know. 'Summon forth the mythical beast'? Something crazy unreal like that.

Out of nowhere, a huge wall of water came straight at me, dousing me all the way.

"Believe us now?" says Percy, tauntingly.

"Uh... What do I do first?" I say, now convinced.

That's when Nessie grabed me by the pant leg and dragged me down under the water. I just have time to register Percy's yelling for some help before I'm dragged under the water.
