The First Daughter

Just Maybe...

Chapter 24:

We were ushered into a situation room where people were just scurrying around in a panic like ants at a picnic.
Gaius walked in and instantly he commanded the room instantly, “Fill me in!” He commanded and Eliza stepped forward and did her best to explain what exactly was going on.
Maxine somehow managed to stand beside me but she wasn't paying attention to me or the other people scurrying around but a Hunter came up and whispered something to Maxine.

Giaus told us to follow him into another room, Eliza followed behind Maxine and I and shut the door when we entered the private room.
Gaius came straight to the point, “My obligation is to protect the city of New Rome, my wish is to help you but I can only give you this: Hunter's, and your team Hannah, have to split up, Hunters since you are her servants and can feel her presence better you will find where Hades is keeping Artemis and extract her. Hannah, you'll lead your team and find the Heroes of Olympus and bring them back to the surface. We'll provide the supplies we can spare for your journeys.”

Gaius looked over at Eliza and nodded his head, and they walked together outside. I looked over at Maxine, “You wish to join us?” Maxine asked as if reading my mind.
“I wished I could.” I replied, “But I have my own team to lead.” Maxine nodded, and she took off the circlet off her head and handed it to me,
“Wear it: then maybe you'll be able to get your own when we get your Mother back.” I smiled and turned the circlet over in my hand, “Just maybe.” I replied.
Maxine nodded, “Prove yourself worthy as The First Daughter of Artemis, Hannah Batson.” And she left.

I stood in the room, thinking for a moment, “Just maybe.” I repeated. As I said this the circlet turned from silver to black in my hands. The door opened again and Darren burst through, “They found Lilly!”

I walked in the bedroom with my hair now in a braid and the black circlet on my head, and found Lilly sitting on the edge of the bed. Lilly looked up at Darren and I she did her best to explain, “I- I couldn't take that I killed – you Hannah- I had to leave.”
“Save it.” I replied,
“We have to go and get the Heroes of Olympus.” I turned to Darren, “You'll be in charge getting our supplies, get everything you need and can get your hands on and that we can carry easily; Speed and Stealth is the thing we need to rely on.”
“Wait-” Lilly shook her head in confusion, “What's going on?”
“The Romans are kicking us out!” Darren replied with a chuckle. It had been a while since I heard him make a joke, or at least try, it sounded nice for a change.
I cocked a smile, “We have to move on, The Romans have offered to give us supplies.”
“Where are we going?” Lilly asked.
“The prophecy said that we have to dive down to rescue the lost heroes right? Percy said that they were here in San Francisco. There must be an underground network of some kind.”

Lilly raised her hand, “Umm while I was roaming the city I found some tunnels under the city, they were heavily fortified by the Romans so I avoided them but that might be the way in.”

We all exchanged glances and we all silently agreed, “I'll go and talk with Gaius and see what it is.” I replied.

“There are several tunnels under the city,” Gaius replied to my question, “Some of which that these creatures have flooded in.” I crossed my arms, “I've took to calling them Shadow Creatures.” Gaius nodded, “A fitting name; so we naturally blocked up the other tunnels to keep any other, Shadow Creatures from coming into the city.” “Do you think we can enter one of these tunnels?” Gaius sighed, ”We've never mapped these tunnels, going under makes us subject to Pluto. But we have to assume that they lead to different places: You might take one tunnel and end up where you don't need to be.” I thought about it for a moment then I sighed, “I guess we have to take that chance.” Gaius nodded, “I will give you limitless access to the tunnels, and will pray to the gods that you'll make it safely through and get out.” Darren stepped forward from the shadows, “Thank you for your hospitality.” Lilly came up behind Darren, “Yes, thank you.” Gaius gave a slight smile, “You are all welcome; find that you now have allies here.” “Glad to hear.”

Did you base Eliza on yourself?

Really well written! I truly appreciated the whole storyline, with its well-development characters and adventurous plot. I would love to read some more.
