The Guardian of Knowledge

07.

Forget the third legion, asking Hermes for a challenge was the most idiotic thing that Alexus could've ever done in his life. Not only did the basalisk pose a threat but ever thirty minutes after he'd left Portland, he'd been attacked by some kind of monster. A Nemian Lion. A horrid of scorpions, even hell hounds tracked him down. Sure they were difficult to kill, but when he had another person's safety to think about the simpler the better.

After they reached the mid-western states, Alexus figured knowing more about this Porphyrion giant was a better advantage. "So what exactly happened to Hera?" He wondered as he trugged along on call for battle. "I mean, she didn't die, or fade or whatever, so she must've found a loop whole to her options, right?"

"It's hard to say how she got out, but according to the myths about the Gigantomachy, she was saved by Hercules and Poseidon or Hermes rescued her as another act of trials on his account."

"Hermes?" Alexus questioned. "He's a god, I thought those kind of jobs were restricted to demigods."

Diana smirked. "Actually, Hermes and Dionysus were originally demigods in myths. So it could have been trails of their potential to help Zeus in his time of need."

"I see." Alexus murmured. With that their conversation died out for a while. That is until an arch of black lightning scratched the surface before them. In a wave of dusk and ash, an entire legion of shades appeared before them. Alexus noticed their dull blades and weak armor. They were from the Roman Empire but they're combat skills didn't seem to measure up to his.

Taking gaurd, Alexus closed his back with Diana's and drew his sword. "Draw your staff, you're gonna have to back me up."

Amazed, Diana glanced back at him. "Why not just use you're bow and arrow?"

Turning to her, Alexus smiled. "Come on, even you know that'll be too easy, besides you can protect yourself."

"Gee thanks." Diana muttered.

In a wave of shades, they attacked. Alexus didn't sweat on the impact he slashed right through the endless horrids of dark fallen spartus. In a pivot of his arm, he smacked bobbed and weaved down most of the legion. Glancing back, he noticed the monsters reshaping and reforming. In a cry of endless hollows, the monsters charged. Amazed, Alexus dashed in slashing and hacking through the crowds. Every time he'd turn they'd reform.

With a sigh, he retreived his position beside Diana. "I guess you're right. But I'll use a better meathod of killing them off. Diana, do you trust me?"

"Yes. I do." She replied confused. "But what are you gonna do?"

"I'm gonna use a more powerful ability of mine. Now, can you close you're eyes and do me the favor of not opening them until it's ober. No matter what, don't open them. Don't open them! No matter what."

"Alright." Diana murmured with that, she closed her eyes as Alexus spread his hands and legs to burst into a brilliant light. With a bronze tint, the skin on his arms darkened and released a ominepotent light of truth. In an explosion of light the dark soldiers of the underworld were explled back to where they came from.

Collapsing to his knees, Alexus poured out in a puddle of sweat. "Alright! It's all clear you can open you're eyes." He sighed. Opening her eyes, Diana glanced around amazed at his amazing powers.

"What did you do?" Diana asked.

"I'm a son of Apollo, as the Oracle even you know that what I did, is god-like." Alexus smiled. With a stagger of his foot, he rose to a sigh. "Let's get moving, we're almost a day away from Florida."
