The Lost Daughter

Math teachers hate me...

Ok, I'm defiantly NOT a cat person. Especially if that cat is a demon with wings. I knew hairless cats were ugly, but not deadly.

"Alright class, page 42. Now!" Ms. Williams yelled. I'm surprised she's not hoarse from how many times she's yelled. And I wonder how this school EVER agreed to hire a nut-job like her. She dressed like she was drafted in the army. A red plaid bandana was wrapped around her short, spiked white hair. She wore a lavender dress with a jean jacket, complete with ammo pockets and heavy-duty army boots. They even let her bring her hairless cat, Marrow, to school! He despises me. I swear he has something against me! Marrow thought he owned the place. But he always gave me the chills. Those green, creepy eyes are always staring at me...

I heard the clink-clink-clink of Marrow's collar hitting the key hanging around his neck on a red, plaid fabric. He meowed (more like shrieked) and jumped up on a boy's desk. The boy yelped and hid behind the girl next to him. Marrow just rubbed against the girl and hopped down. Felicia leaned next to me and whispered, "What is with that cat?! Oh, they BOTH give me the creeps!" Felicia shivered and sat back in her chair. Ms. William's ears were like radars. "Who's talking?!" She hissed. Everyone was quiet. Felicia just rolled her eyes and huffed.

Ms. Wiliams went back to teaching math. I tried to concentrate, but Marrow kept distracting me. I had this worried feeling in the pit of my stomach. Then the cat started wailing and yowling, like something was ripping off his tail. Not like he had much of a tail, though. Anyway, the cat got so loud that I couldn't hear myself think.

I looked around. The only ones who seemed to notice were me, Felicia and Ms. Williams. Then Marrow dove off the desk. But he didn't land on the floor. He soared up into the air. Everything seemed to go in slow motion. I saw green-black leathery wings grow out from Marrow's shoulders. His ears grew bigger and he formed a bat-like nose. His claws became talons, and teeth became fangs. Marrow was now a demon cat.

Marrow screeched and flew around the class, pulling hair and tearing books. Now the other kids noticed. They all screamed and frantically dove under desks and ran out the door. One even tried to call the office, before Marrow tore the phone to shreds. Then he saw me. He screeched and clawed my arm. I felt an awful stinging. Blood rushed down my arm. Then Felicia screamed. Marrow had run a talon across her face, leaving a nasty scar.

And that's when things started getting REALLY weird. Apparently, Ms. Williams didn't know her cat was a bat mutation. But she wasn't sane either. She let out a mangled battle cry and started swinging around a golden sword. Then Keevan Douglas, the new kid who looks like he could be 20, came barreling in. But he didn't have pants on. Instead of human legs, he had goat ones. I seriously just felt like passing out then and there. But I had to help Felicia.

Marrow saw me make my move and dove toward me again. Then my worst nightmare happened. He got stuck in my hair. Shrieking and clawing, Marrow desperately tried to escape. Now I was REALLY screaming. I saw Felicia still holding her face. Keevan picked up a too-sharp pencil and flung it at Marrow. It hit him in the shoulder. "Darn it. Not enough power!" Keevan yelled.

"Keevan, help Felicia!" I yelled over the noise of Marrow. His eyes widened when he saw me, but rushed to Felicia. He whispered something and she nodded, and her cut stopped bleeding. But it was a permanent scar. I grabbed some scissors nearby and gave myself an unexpected haircut. The demon started flying around the room again. "Tarynn, here!" Ms. Williams yelled, tossing me a golden sword just like her own. I never liked swords, but I took a swing at Marrow. It clipped him on the wing. He growled as black stuff oozed from it. Felicia cheered, which wasn't really helping.

The pencil was still sticking out of his shoulder. When Marrow was in range, I took another swing. This time, it sliced him across the back. Then the demon cat exploded into a pile of dust. Everyone was quiet. Then they looked at me. "That was... quite something." Ms. Williams said. All of sudden, I felt the pain in my arm again. I groaned and my eyes rolled back into my head. I collapsed to the ground, everything dark. The last thing I heard was Felicia calling my name, sounding scared.
