Two Bodies, One Soul

War Council

Annie

Annie nervously walked to the Big House. As one of the younger Dionysus kids she was rarely called to talk to Chiron, and when she was it was never good news. She saw Tink walking in the same direction and ran to catch up with her friend.

"Do you know why we're being called?" She asked the daughter of Nike.

"No but I think it has something to do with Kat and Lia. Kat ran out of class today with no excuse other than 'twin stuff' so I reckon we're being pulled into whatever she was talking about." Tink replied.

"Ok then." Sometimes she forgot her friend was so smart. "Why didn't they call some of our older siblings?" Annie wondered.

"I don't know." Tink said simply as they reached the porch. "But whatever the reason I don't think we're gonna like it."

Annie couldn't have said it better.

"Girls!" Chiron greeted them inside to the living room where Kat and Lia were already sitting on a couch before the centaur (who was currently in wheelchair mode).

"What's wrong?" Annie asked. The twins looked shaken and Chiron looked worried. He never looked worried.

"Sit." He told them. "I can't say more until Bethany arrives."

"Bethany?" Tink asked. "But she's only 9! Why would you want to drag her into this- whatever it is?"

"Calm down. I'll explain when she gets here." Chiron said.

Annie opened her mouth to argue but Delia interupted.

"Please guys, just sit." She sounded tired like she really didn't want to argue. No wonder. The poor girl had just lost her boyfriend. They sat.

A few minutes of awkward silence later, Beth rushed through the door. "Sorry I'm late!" She said, sitting down. She'd been working hard on her cabin and it would be ready by tomorrow.

"That's ok Beth. Sit down and I'll explain what's going on." Chiron said gently.

"When Kat and Lia went on their quest at the start of the year, their dad told them a prediction of their future. He told them that when the Argo set flight they would have to lead a team of five demigods to defend the camp from invaders." He began.

Annie looked at her friends sharply. They hadn't told her any of this.

"A few hours ago Leo sent a message to say that he had, under the influence of magic or possesion, fired on the roman camp and they will retaliate by attacking our camp in return. Kat and Delia got a prophecy from Rachel. The prophecy said that 'twins of dove, the victor, children of wine and light. Shall stand together, to lead the final fight.' That's you five. The most powerful demi-gods that are left at camp.

"Wait, what?" Tink asked. "How are we the most powerful? I'm the youngest in my cabin, and I only just got here!"

Annie felt the same but she could hardly talk. She was expected to defend her family and friends. With what power? She could grow grapes and that was it! And not even as well as most of her siblings! How could she be expected to do this?

"Tink, have you ever noticed that you succeed at everything you try? You have the blessing of Nike, the power to win at anything, the advantage in every competition. We need that blessing on our side." Delia told her friend.

"But I'm only nine!" Beth protested.

"You're the first demigod of your mother's and you know you have gifts. Gifts that we need if we're to win." Chiron told her.

"What can I do? Why do you want me on your team? I'm useless!" Annie despaired.

"Because you're our friend, you keep us all together when we want to give up hope. You are the vines that hold a team together, and we need that on our side!" Kat told her.

"Not to mention she's by far the most powerful demi-god of mine this century." A voice added from the shadows, he stepped out of the doorway.

It was her dad.

Dionysus.

Notes

Maybe the last chapter I'll get done at the beach.
