Life of a Legacy

Bedtime Story

I went to the woods and chilled by Zeus' Fist. No one came around there unless they were playing capture the flag so I sat in front of the boulder alone. I pulled off my ring my grandparents gave me, causing it to turn into a two foot long celestial bronze sword. It had a leather grip and it was the only weighted sword I would use. Right above the hilt of the sword, a carving of an owl was on one side and a horse was on the other side. Its name is Wise Sea. I got up and began to whack at the boulder. I prayed to Zeus for forgiveness, just in case he found it disrespectful to whack at something named after him. No lightning or thunder, so I guessed that I was okay. I got bored after a while and went back to the camp grounds. There were less campers that earlier today and a lot more were getting ready to leave in a few hours. I saw some Hermes kids trying to steal something from the camp's store, but they got caught by an Ares' kid who was running it. The Hermes kids ran as the Ares' son shouted some less than nice things in Greek.

I went over to the arena to see what was going on. Mom was going over some last minuet judo moves and Dad was going over some sword moves. I walked into the bleachers and settled down as I watched my parents train demigods. I watched as campers judo flip each other and watch as the swords caused sparks from clashing. Once, a kid accidently kicked a kid into another one who was fighting and made him lose. They looked like they were going to kill each other, but Dad calmed them down. That's when Mom ended practice and had everyone go and enjoy their last day and pack. As she said it, I twirled my third bead I got yesterday: a bead with Nike's symbol and the name of her triplets that came to camp early summer. They went on a quest to save Peleus, our dragon that was kidnapped. As soon as the last child left the arena, I tried to leave too hopping my parents didn't see me. I had my back turned and was almost out.

"Nara, we see you. Come here please," Mom said. I turned around and looked at the ground as I walked to my mom's voice. She lifted my chin, forcing me to look into her eyes. They looked hurt and worried. "You told Chiron that you wish you were never born?" she asked.

"It's true," I said trying to steady my voice. Mom let my chin go and looked at me as if I told her there was a spider on her shirt.

"Nara, why would you think that your dad and I don't want you?"

"That's the problem, Mom!"

"Nara, what is going on?" Dad asked, trying to make sense of everything.

"Nothing," I said, avoiding their eyes. Mom wrapped her arms around me.

"Nara, I promise tonight we'll talk. Just...just hold on...just hold on a little longer," she said, barely keeping her voice steady. I didn't understand what she was talking about. "Nara?"

"Sure Mom," was all I could say. Mom looked at me and stroked my hair. Dad took me and placed me on his shoulders. He took Mom's hand and walked out of the arena while telling us a story from his childhood. That's Dad for you.

The campfire was small, only fifteen or twenty campers stayed year long, but it was fun! We all sang(except Dad who hummed at Mom's command) and made a few s'mores. I didn't want it to end. However, Chiron called light's out and that's when everyone walked back to the cabins. As soon as we got to Poseidon's cabin, I ran to my room and shut the door. I didn't want to talk about whatever we needed to talk about. I changed into my pajamas and laid face down on my bed with my face in a pillow. After a few minuets, I herd a knock on the door. I groaned and Mom and Dad came in and sat down on my bed. I didn't look up. I herd Dad's voice first.

"Nara, we know your awake. Your not drooling," he said. I laughed a little but I stopped and still kept my head in my pillow.

"Nara," Mom's voice was soft, "we need to talk."

"Humph," was all I said. I turned so my back to them and I was facing a wall.

"She gets that from you Annabeth."

"Not now Percy." I couldn't resist laughing, but I stopped as quickly as I began and didn't face my parents.

"Mom, Dad, what battle where you guys talking about?" I asked. Mom took a deep sigh and Dad stroked my hair. Something is wrong.

"Nara, just know that we love you no matter what," Dad said. "Before you were born, Zeus told us to take you to Olympus. We didn't know why, but three days after you where born, we took you to Olympus. When we got to the gods they, they..." his voiced trailed off as if he was trying to say something but couldn't.

"They wanted to vote on killing you," Mom said. I shot up and faced them. Their eyes were watery.

"Kill me? I didn't do anything! Mommy, Daddy!" I snapped. Mom took my hand and continued.

"Honey, we know. When we got there, that's when Zeus told us about how dangerous a Legacy could be. Especially one with the blood of the eldest gods. He said it would be safer to...to...to take you out of your misery. We told him they would have to take you from our cold dead bodies." I curled up on Mom's lap and Dad took my hand.

"When we finished with that," he began, "Zeus wasn't all that happy. Poseidon and Athena said that there was no need for you to die. Half of the gods agreed and the others thought it would be better if you 'were put out of you misery.' We told them there was nothing they could say of do, we were not getting rid of you. Then you began to yawn. We told them to excuse us, but we had to get you to sleep soon and walked out."

"I'm not suppose to be alive?" I asked.

Of course your suppose to be alive. Nara, we will do anything to keep you safe," Mom said. I felt a little guilty. I wanted to say something, but I began to yawn. Dad lifted me up and tucked me in. Both of my parents kissed my cheek and said goodnight. I fell asleep, dreaming of the beach and the five foot sand castles.
