Nicolas Evens: The Rise of the new ones

Chapter 8

The meeting wasn't a big surprise.

The strongest, wisest and bravest of demigods all assembled at the Gates of Entrance. Markus was sporting his favored cape and golden armor, while everone else had on combat tights. I decided to sport my flash combo black-green sleeveless hoodie along with blue jeans and a lime green t shirt. Beside me, Adam sported a washed out blue t shirt and a pair of cargo pants. He held his spear in what looked like a golf club's bag. Authetic considering mortals would just assume he plays golf.

Assembling the crowd of demigods' attention, Markus whistled. "Alright, now that we are all accounted for! As you all know, our valley's leader, Nicolas Evens was given a quest to find and destroy our newest enemy. We must twart their plans to escilate in their numbers and prevent their rising to power."

Glancing at me, he smiled. "Now, all of you follow me to the council room."

Glancing across the crowd, I noticed Liz all alone. She was sporting a lime green tanktop, a windbreaker and a pair of khaki shorts. Her hair was tied back in an elegant yet youthful ponytail acessorizing bangs, lose corner hairs and a double lift tail.

It was an intriuging hair style although, she did put a bit too much effort into it. Making my way towards her, I smiled. "Hey, so I've already made up my mind on my quest and I was kinda hoping you could tag along too. I mean, you me and Adam."

Smiling, Liz gazed at me. It was awkward. I wasn't used to asking for favors, normally when it came to Liz, she'd just vouch to offer help, to which I'd simply comply. But this time, I had to ask.

"Sure, although." She paused. "Two children of Apollo on the same quest? I'm pretty sure others will begin to debate."

"Yea, but aside from me and you, Adam doesn't know anyone and Adam's secret isn't something he'd be willing to speak about. I mean, he's not supposed to tell others about it. Remember the fire of 1666?"

Thinking, Liz gazed at me. "Fine. But you'll have to convince them."
Nodding, I walked away focused on the meeting.

The senate was long dull and boring. Everyone reviewed their in take on the quest and how they should be on the team. Most of the people were in fact great persuaders, but considering I had made my mind up, I just decided to listen.

After everyone had their chance to speak, Allison gave some in sight. "The prophecy states the oldest, this implies that Nyx could very well be your enemy. The goddess of night isn't one to be taken lightly and her powers grow stronger at night so, if I were you, I'd avoid much movement at night."

"I know that." I murmured. "Last night, I had a dream about Nyx, she was ordering some shades to attack me and my unit, once we left. This means that our enemy is at least for now going to be the goddess of night, Nyx."

"Where was this dream stationed?" Markus asked.

"I was in a castle, off the coast of some unknown Island."

"I could advise you on that." Allison intercepted. "The island is called Crete. It was the divine home land of the fates back in the new age of the Olympians. But now, the fates have created a new temple up on Olympus. Nyx steps foot on the old temple of the fates."

"Then how do I get there?" I asked.

"You'd either need to take the long voyage by see or use the maze of Daedalus." Allison announced. "The Maze is inaccurate thoigh. It could take you days before you reach your location."

"I think you're forgetting I'm a child of Hades. The underground is my element. Besides, I'll have two skilled demigods at my side."

"And who might those be?" Markus wonderee. "You've been given time to choose, are you choosing both of them? Or just one?"

"Both." I declared. "The first will be the newbie. Adam, son of Apollo. He'll take this as a learning experience and it'll help his lack of self confidence." I gazed at Adam wondering I had said something wrong, but he just nodded hesitantly.

"And the second one?" Markus asked.

"Before I acknowledge them, I'd like to purpose that even though I do have said abilities of this individual it would be an even greater asset to have her on my team rather than most people. For one, she understands me best implying that our ability to work well together would help the completion of the quest. The other thing is that her knowledge could aid us in combat and battle strategy." I rebuttled. "Now, the last person on my team will be, Liz, the daughter of Apollo."

In a roar of outburst, the crowds argued. Many complained the imbalance of powers. Some said I had two healers, others said their were two archers, one even blurted out that they would be an upgrade from Adam. I didn't mind the insults, heck neither did Adam or Liz, it was just the problem of them wanting to out due the two demigods that had shown genuine concern.

Rising his hand, Markus silenced the crowd. "Although, it's untraditional. I accept. Nicolas considering you are the leader, prove to me that this was not a mistake on my part. You will leave after lunch, good luck and I hope you find yourenemies and return to us safely." Rising to his feet, Markus waved and ushered everone that the meeting was ajurned.

Taking a deep breath, I wondered if I would have to use my other weapon on the shades.
