Nicolas Evens: The Rise of the new ones

Chapter 9

The journey from the valley into town took us about an hour. By then Adam became distant, Liz had wondered where we were going and I was still dead straight on finding the one person that could help us start this quest.

"Nicolas." Liz called out. "Where are we going? Aren't we supposed to be trying to find the Maze of Daedalus. This is a quest to stop the new ones from rising."

"Liz. It's important that we speak with someone before we make it through the labyrinth. Besides this person knows how to find him."

"How to find who?" Adam wondered.

Glancing at him, I forgot he was beside me. Adam had a habit of fading into the background which wasn't a good thing for him, when he decided to become relevent.

"The last time I remember, the name he called himself was Grover Underwood. But i'm sure he changed it by now." I sighed. "The area should be close by. We just need to make a right and follow the wind for a couple of kilometers until we reach New York City."

"That's not close at all." Liz complianed. "This doesn't seem smart when we could've used the Labyrinth."

"What is this Maze you two keep speaking about?" Adam wondered.

"The Maze of Daedalus, is more commonly known as the Labyrinth." I replied. "It connects distant places and bends the rules of time and space. What seems like hours could be days or even years. Without the key we can't navigate our way around."

"So, who's this friend of your's we're going to meet?" Adam wondered.

Glancin up at the nearest building, I smiled. "He's an old saytr. He's retired now, but I'm pretty certain, he'll help me out with this last favor."

"Then, we should keep mobing. If we're not smart enough, monsters will start attacking us." Adam replied.

"Yea. let's move."

The traveling took us a while. Sure making it from Brooklyn to the valley was one thing, but to the find an ancient goddess by using an old dungeon that was beyond possible. I thought back to my training days on the streets of New York. I recalled having to kill off various monsters. The lot of them would always be cyclopes.

After a blast down memory lane, I was pulled back just before stepping into the intersect as cars passed on by.

"Wow!" Liz called out as she pulled me back. "You could've been killed. Watch where you're going."

"Sorry. I was lost in my thoughts." I conveyed. Looking around, I smiled. "We're close, it should only be a few blocks from here. The Great lawn isn't that hard to find after all."

Arriving at the great lawn, I noticed the big oaf of a saytr couching on by as his three children raced on by playing. One was a storm nymph while the other two were saytrs.

"Well, well, well." He shook his head in disbelief. "If it isn't the child of shadows himself. Nicolas Evens! What brings you around to my little home away from home."

"I was in town and just thought why not meet my old saytr of a friend, Gleeson Hedge." I replied.

"Quit sucking up, Evens and tell me what cha want?"

"Alright." I smiled. "I'm in need of information. Do you know anything about the Labyrinth?"

"It was destroyed years ago. During the battle of the Labyrinth. I remember Grover Underwood was in there and most of what you call the valley was left in shambles after the battle. Kronos found the one entrance thay was inside camp."

"Do you know where I can find the string?" I asked.

"Nope." He sighed. "But if you need to know where Grover's at, he's somewhere in Georgia. Something about the power of the wild being at it's peak there. I've held off my searching duties since I've had a family."

"Yea, I've been meaning to ask who's the oldest?" I smiled.

Holding a smug look, Hedge sighed. "Grace is the oldest, as you can see she takes after her mother. Aurae and all."

"And then two saytrs?" I asked.

"Grayson and Liam Hedge, both my warriors in training, soon enough they'll be ready for any searching quest they're given." Hedge replied. "Anyways, I'm sure Grover will be in Atlanta, take a shot and sense him out, you children of Hades are always good at that."

"You act like there's more than just one. Last time I checked Hades only had one son." I smiled.

"I've met two children of Hades before. One was often silent, olive skin, black hair and he kinda was troubled. Like he hated the world or somethin."

"The other one?" Liz asked.

Turning his attention to her he smiled. "She was kind, loving and out of her time. Litterally. She was more fashioned for being a child of Hecate. She was often strong and resiliant. She also was brave and not afraid of death."

"You speak about them like their your grandchildren." Adam replied. "That shows affection. I'm sure you were meant to be a great father."

Glancing at Adam, Hedge looked like he was about to say something but then sighed. "This seems like a good time to leave before things get crowded."

"Sure thing, Hedge." With a silent goodbye we decided to leave.

Notes

NOTES.

Introducing a Rick Riordan character. It's preety interesting. Noticing how Grover has been confirmed to appear soon and the foreshadowing of both Nico and Hazel, it's nice to continue.

Keep in mind they are not going to appear because of the time it has been since the last war, but they're mentioning helps continue the story and provides a history to Gleeson Hedge.

read onward as I continue.
