The Wheel Of Time

New Camper, Old Friend

There was nothing new about this sing-a-long, except that the air felt lighter. the fire was a bright white-yellow, so much so that you almost couldn't look at it. There were smiles everywhere, even from the Hunters.

I was walking around monitoring the younger kids-- mostly, how many s'mores they had. I finally sat down next to Annabeth. Liz was saying something about the plan.

"Well, it was just the basic divide and conquer strategy. One part deffends, while the other gets the flag. We send one person from each cabin in the recon group, and everyone else is split up into groups of four to six people. Two thirds of the defense group go to the nets and the trees on the front line closest to the river.

"Half of the remaining group goes across the river to set of the loose trip wires. The other half places the flag on Zeus' Fist, and then goes to the trenches, to wait. The trip wires are set up to flare pistols, and will fire straight upward if the hunters cross it. The people in the trenches are a last line of defense, and take out any hunters that make it that far with some really mild Hypnos darts.

"The tree groups have at least one person thats good with a bow. All of the arrows had glass bottle tied to them. they were spread out to cover a little less than forty square yards. they made sure that the hunters didn't get past, the first line of defense. the second line protected the flag, and the flag had one guard behind the rock pile.

"Simple." She said to finnish. Annabeth Nodded, but when She looked at me she laughed. Apparently I looked as confused as I felt. Okay.

"And the Minotaur came tumbling down!" Everyone sang, and finished the last song. Everybody clapped, and a few people whistled. The Apollo cabin stood and took a bow. It was almost an hour later, and We had gone through almost twenty camp songs, already. I grinned, but could feel the tiredness creep in. It had been a long day, and I could see it on all of the camper's faces, though all of them were trying not to show it. Time for bed.

I stood, and heard a collective 'aww!' I grinned and looked around.

"Alright. Its been a good night, but its getting late. All the heads of cabins please escort your siblings to bed. Younger campers please stick close to your groups; we don't want you getting eaten by our cleaning staff." I said, and some of them laughed, others looked worried. I grinned at them and they seemed to calm down. I went back over to Liz, where Annabeth was still sitting.

"Mart, can you lead back tonight?" She asked, calling to the retreating group of her siblings. A hand waved above the crowd and a boy yelled, "sure!"

"You were amazing tonight, Liz." I told her as I sat down. She smiled, embarrassed.

"I couldn't have done better myself." Annabeth added. We both looked at her in surprise. for a child of Athena to say that... it was one of the highest compliments they could pay you. I looked to Lizzie, and saw her raised eyebrows at me. I grinned back, and Annabeth Laughed at the both of us.

"Good to know I get a full night of sleep tomorrow." I said. It was almost twelve twenty. They both laughed with me.

We all quieted quickly when we heard the rustling. it was coming from the entrance to the colosseum, right next to us. we all jumped up, ready for a fight. I took out riptide, and uncapped it. Liz had her sword out in a flash, and Annabeth was already behind me, ready.

The rustling stopped and was replaced with shuffling off beat footsteps. Sneakers on the stone path; and every other step seemed to stumble. I heard the echo of his footsteps on the walls of the entrance to the colosseum.

Then a teenager in a grey hoodie, stumbled into the open space. He was tall and in good shape from what I could see. His hood was up so I couldn't see his hair or eyes, and his left arm was held tightly in front of him, against his stomach.

He stopped when He saw us. He swayed in one spot for a moment before half falling, half leaning against the nearest wall. He slipped down the wall, and his arm moved away from his stomach. His front was covered in a shining, dark, splattered stain. Blood.

We all lowered our weapons and moved forward quickly, but cautiously. Liz reached him first. She carefully leaned forward a tiny bit, and moved the hood away from his face. I froze.

What I was seeing before me was impossible, and yet here it was.

"Is it a mortal?" Liz asked. I shook my head, then I realized that she was still looking at him and not me.

"No, He is a demigod." I said.

"How are you sure?" She asked.

"He's an old friend." Annabeth pitched in. looked at her, to see that she looked as surprised as I felt. I moved forward and wrapped his arm around my neck, pulling him slowly up. Then Annabeth was on his other side, holding the rest of his weight on her side. I nodded to her and we quickly brought him up to the big house. We walked around the cabins in case anyone was still out. If we were holding who we thought...

Chiron walked out to meet us and didn't so much as blink when he saw him. He simply took us to a room and began to clean and wrap the wound on his abdomen, when we got him in the bed. Elizabeth stayed in the room, and was given instructions. When he was sleeping soundly, Chiron came up to us, and began talking.

"I do not understand fully what has happened, I only know that he has been attacked, and who he may possibly be. For now this will be kept a secret, understood?" We nodded. and I took the seat outside his room. Annabeth leaned up against the wall across from me and slid down into a sitting position.

We sat there silently, Until I heard Annabeth breath deeper; She had fallen asleep. I couldn't have fallen asleep if I had tried. I was too baffled by everything that had happened. I just couldn't understand how it was possible. He was dead.. He had been for years. I was there when we had burnt his shroud.

Don't get me wrong; I was thrilled on the inside. I could get my friend back. This was just so surprising. I mean He was... That man might be... Well, He might actually be... Luke.

Annabeth had mentioned seeing someone who looked like him, in one of Rachel's drawings, But i didn't think it would actually be Luke. I mean, maybe he had a twin?

On second thought, maybe I could fall asleep. I started to drift slowly, and before I knew it, Liz was shaking me awake.

"He wants to talk to you and Annabeth. I'll go get her, but you should go in." She said and started down the hall. I sat up. Here we go.

@LCCabin3

All of the above, except not the something not great. And I have NOTHING to criticize. At. All. I LOVE reading this and cannot wait to read more!!!!!

@Frost Wrathbomber, could you elaborate a little on that? I love constructive criticism! But is that an "OMG, how could you?" or a "OMG what's gonna happen next?" or just an "OMG this is great/something not great!" ??????

thanks so much!
