The Daughters of the Big Three

Chapter Seventeen

“How do we know he won’t just send us back in time again?” Zac questions.
“We have to make sure that he doesn’t feel so threatened,” I say. “When there were four of us, with our weapons out, that made him nervous,” I feel like I’m talking about him as though he’s some sort of wild animal.
“How else are we going to do that then?” Accailia asks.
“It’s quite simple,” I explain. “Instead of me and Drea, like last time, it’ll be Drea and Accailia who approach Kris. He knows you two the best. There will be no weapons drawn. And I want Drea to do all the talking with him.”
“Why me?” Drea asks, unhappy with the sudden attention.
“He knows you the best of all of us.”
She lets out a sigh and agrees.
“So,” I smile. “No weapons, Drea talks, and Jace, Zac, and I, stay out of sight.”
“Yep,” Accailia shrugs.
“Agreed,” Jace nods.
“Yeah,” Zac says.
“I’m in,” Drea sighs.
“Let’s do this,” I smile.

I step through the rift with Zac and Jace in tow. We walk a few feet when we see Drea and Accailia approaching Kris.
“I told you to stay away from me!” Kris yells at the two.
“I know,” Drea breathes. “But I need to have a word with you, please Kris,” Kris turns around with his arms crossed. “I know I haven’t ever thanked you for what you did four years ago. But thank you.”
Not how I expected this to start but, oh well.
“Kris, I know this travelling of yours is how you like to get from place to place. But you have to stop.”
“Why?” He asks turning around.
“The monsters in each of the worlds are able to travel too. And demigods are getting hurt because of that. I’m not saying you’re a bad person because of all this. You’re not. You’re a hero. You saved my life, and Accailia’s.”
“How did I save Accailia’s?” He asks.
“When you sent the four of us back in time, it was before she was going to die. She was supposed to be killed by one of the monsters who travelled into our world. But by sending us back, she gets to live.”
“All I have to do is stop my travelling?” Kris asks.
“Yes,” Drea nods. “Then you can come back to Camp Half-Blood with us.”
“But…”
“Yes?”
“I’ll be an outcast. I’m the son of Kronos. I’m not like you guys. After the war a few years back… they’d all hate my guts,” Kris looks down.
“I understand that feeling. I mean, Hades is my dad. But if you become friends with Elaina, like I did. They’ll never want to bother you again.”
That puts a smile on my face.
“Oh yeah, Poseidon’s daughter. Where is she?” Kris looks around. Then he spots me. I slowly step out.
“Sorry for acting like an eaves dropper,” I say. “We were supposed to stay away but I wanted to make sure everything went okay.”
“Oh, it’s all right,” Kris says. “Sorry about earlier. I sometimes get really stressed and I just run.”
“That’s understandable,” I say. “I don’t think you’ve met Jace yet. Right?”
“No, I haven’t.”
We introduce the two and explain how Jace could travel too. They both agree on how they’ll close the rifts. Apparently, Thalia’s tree is the main one, and sealing that one will close the rest off for good.
“So, off to Camp then?” I ask. Everyone agrees and we go back through the rift to our world. “Should we stop for the night?” I look up at the stars above us.
“Sure, why not?” Accailia says. We’re just about to settle down when I remember.
“Guys,” I recall, “The Nefelex,” Just as the words leave my mouth, the footsteps of the monster start to sound.
“Can you do what you did last time?” Jace asks me.
“Yes,” I say. I look at Zac and Accailia “We’re just going to need some lightning.”
