Chapter 14

Percy-

"Annabeth!" I yell. Something was flying towards her, fast. I was right next to her, but my panicked brain took a little long to react. Just as I went to grab the object, which now appeared to be a cat, it slipped from right between my fingers. Fuck, I thought. Annabeth gave a surprised yelp. I didn't blame her, burning cats don't fall from the sky everyday. I rushed to hold her, keep her head from falling on the hard-pact dirt. Nico stood next to me quietly, not really sure what to do. "Are you--" I started saying, but Leo beat me to it.

"Are you okay?" Leo asks her over-sweetly. He flicks me a sinister smile. "Would you like for me to help you?" I don't know why but I felt jealousy surge through me. I tried not to make it too obvious, but I still flashed Leo a glare before giving him a tight smile. Challenge accepted. Annabeth groaned, "Will you guys stop? I can practically feel the jealous tension in the air. My head is now hurting and my sinuses are filled with the smell of burning cat. Which I am allergic to."

My face felt warm, so I was sure it was red. Leo's flushed as well. Why did he always have to chase after girls? The only reason he hasn't done anything about C, was-- C... I had forgotten of her. Shit. The realization of my situation hit me almost as hard as the cat hit Annabeth. Annabeth has me wrapped around her perfect little finger, and neither of us even knew that. The islands of guilt were multiplying one by one the more I thought of it. I haven't spoken to C in ages. She's upset with me. We're fighting. I broke my promise to her. I had this attraction to Annabeth. I accidentally upset her. I had an.. an urge to simply being in her presence. For my feelings to be mutual. For her to-- "Percy?" Annabeth snaps me out of my guilt trip. "Are you okay?" She looked truly concerned. I searched her eyes for something to show an interest. I just wasn't sure. I tried to regain myself by giving her the usual devious grin. "The question is, are you alright? Do you have a concussion?"

I could practically see Leo's wheels turning in his head as he tried to figure what was currently happening. What wordless conversation we were having. "I think the cat does.." Annabeth says, and smiles despite herself. I laugh and Leo does too, but its forced and he looks at me behind her back with a suspicious face. My smile grew bigger. I was about to ask Annabeth a question, about her still being upset with me. Instead Alec came running back from the direction of the fire with a man trailing angry blue sparks behind him. "I SWEAR TO GOD WHY DO I DEAL WITH YOU SHADOWHUNTERS? WHY DON'T I JOIN TESSA?" Blue Spark Man was saying.

"Magnus don't be so rude. Gabriel is a Starweather of course he's going to be annoying," Alec says sympathetically. "ShUT UP ALEC--CHAIRMAN MEOW!!!" Magnus yells, and looks at something behind me and Annabeth. I turn to see the smoking crater in the grass. Magnus ran to the cat, "NO!!! DAMN YOU STARKWEATHER!!" He gently held the cat in his lap. It was limp, but barely breathing. He used his blue spark magic to help the process of healing him. Warlock.

Magnus was practically fuming. Alec was whispering reassuring things to him. Isabelle was making snarky comments, like, "Oh please," and ,"Give me a break." Leo stared at Percy in a competitive glare, and Percy returned the favor without Annabeth noticing. She was too busy looking at something in the horizon. "Hope you enjoy your fresh grilled cat to go, Bane!" A kid yelled. That kid. "Shadowhunters sure are annoying aren't they?" Nico says, and slowly and mysteriously in the direction of the retreating Shadowhunter.
