Islands of Guilt

Chapter 3

The next morning, I was up before Percy and decided to check what was in the Gathering Room, especially since my stomach was grumbling at me. What I saw made me scream. I ran out of the room, my bare feet pounding on the homemade wooden floors. I went quickly down the two hallways to Percy's room. I stopped suddenly in front of the door,

Hold up, I thought, Did I just call the guest room Percy's room?!

What? Anyways, I took a deep breath and knocked on the guest room's door. I swallowed hard as I stood there, waiting for him to open the door. After about thirty seconds of pure silence,I opened the door, the creaks amplified in the quiet room. The bed sheets were a mess, and I could barely find Percy. I rolled my eyes at his boyishness and shook him slightly attempting to wake him. Percy simply moaned and turned over, still in a deep sleep. I shook him again, but violently, and his eyes blinked open. Percy's sea green eyes were darker than usual, probably from just waking up.

"Whaaaaaat?" He says tiredly.

I breath in, "I need you to see something."

Percy's face twists with confusion, but he nods anyways. He slowly gets up, and I blush, noticing he's only in shorts. I suddenly become aware that I was only in a white romper, the shorts only two inches from my knees; and the shirt, of course, is a tank top. Percy walks past me, nudging my shoulder. "Come on," He says, "Wise Girl."

"Wise Girl?" I ask.

"You are Athena's daughter," He smirks.

"Okay," I return the smile, "Seaweed Brain."

"Well," Percy's eyebrows go up, "You wanted to show me something? Or are you just admiring my good looks?"

I flush, and quietly mutter, "Yeah." I lead him down the hall, taking each step carefully, trying not to make the floors creak. When we reached the door, I take a shallow breath. The door was open, and the sun of the early morning peeked out the windows past.. the "creature." I look up at Percy, worried about what might happen. Will he fight it? Or will it kill him? These creatures are rather... violent. But Percy was looking down at me, waiting. "Well..." I say looking down at my fiddling hands, "Take a look inside." I lean against the wall, my knees against my chest. Percy was hovering over me, his hand a foot away from the top of my head. He smelled of the salty sea, and it was quite nice. I mentally shook my head. I have another thing to worry about.

I took another glace inside. It was still limp, and I quickly looked away, my throat dry. I see Percy swallow, horror on his face. He takes a deep breath, clearly thinking, then looks down at me, his face now showing concern. He indicates to go inside with him using hand gestures. I nod and get up, a little wave of nausea hitting me. It smelled strongly of dirt and... blood. Percy and I slowly made our way inside, and he picks up a stick that the it brought along. I caught Percy's gaze and realized what he was about to do. I shook my head, horrified. I don't think he knows what these are able to do.

Did Percy take my advice? No. Of course he didn't. He's a boy. Percy moved another two inches closer to it, while I was about two feet away. He poked it with the stick: first in the stomach, then the armpit, then his face. It's, well actually now I could see it is really a he, eyes opened up, showing eyes as dark as night, the same color as his hair. He looks confused as he took in his surroundings. "Wh- Where am I?" He asked.

I gulped, "My home."

"Yeah I realize that, but where is your home?" He said it sarcastically.

"The same terrible island you came from vampire." I said, offended.

"Could ya let me do-"

"No"

"Why?"

"How do I know you're not going to kill me?"

"I don't eat people. I umm.. I like cows."

I took my dagger and eyed the vampire skeptically. In a swift move, I cut down the rope, and he landed face first on the floor, groaning. I smirked and cleared my throat, Percy looked at me with disbelief. "What were you doing in the forest at five in the morning?!" I rushed my words out harshly. "Just looking for a stele, yeesh you demigods are mean, by the Angel." The vampire looked at me like I was his best friend threatening to kill him. Utterly confused.

"Go find it," I pointed with my dagger from him to the floor, "And never come back without being invited." He nodded quickly as I grabbed him by his Pierce the Veil shirt, pulling him to me as I put a dagger to his throat. I walked him toward the front door and led him down the ladder. I let go of him and he turned around inhumanly quickly, grasping his throat. He looked up at Percy, "Do you always let your girlfriend be this violent? Is it just normal, or is it just for me?"

I scowled at him at the same time Percy did, then I saw something silver in the leaves in the corner of my eye. I saw what was like an extended silver pen, jutting out of a pile of leaves. I picked it up and handed it to the vampire. "Would this be your friend's stele..." I remembered he never said his name, " Whatever your name is." He cleared his throat, "Simon.. it's Simon whatever your name is."

I looked at him thoughtfully and glared at his dirt streaked clothes, "Annabeth." Percy took a step closer to me, "And Percy." Simon nodded and started walking away. When he was about ten feet away he turned around, walking backwards and said, "Have a nice honeymoon you two," and of course he winked before he turned around. I scowled once more and scrambled up the ladder, realizing on the way up that Percy hadn't corrected Simon when he said I was Percy's boyfriend.
