Islands of Guilt

Chapter 4

(WARNING: CITY OF HEAVENLY
FIRE SPOILERS)

I sighed as I watched the vampire Simon walk away from Annabeth and I towards the village. He sure was sarcastic.... But he's no match for the sass master, I thought to myself, Gods dammit, why am I so self conceited sometimes? So much I let Simon call Annabeth my girlfriend... I mean I would love to be her boyfr- No, I scold myself, No, I can't not with...

"Wait!" Annabeth yells after Simon. I take a deep breath: this girl sure caught me off guard a lot.

The vampire turned around, "Yes, your majesty?"

Annabeth rolled her eyes, "I want you to take me to the
village. You owe me. So do it. Now."

He raised his eyebrows, "Now why would YOU want to go to Alicante, Annabeth?"

She stared him down with a fiery glare, "Haven't you been LISTENING, vamp? You owe me, so take me. I haven't been to it before so you should take me before I cut your-"

I decided to jump in before things got out of hand, "Woaaaah Annabeth," I put my arm across her collarbone to keep her from going any further towards Simon, "There's not need for that."

She was furious now, "But what if he doesn't?! What if he runs off to his little friend and forgets all about our DEAL?!"

Simon looked practically scared out of his pants, "Uhhh your man's right," I admit I liked the sound of that, "There's no need for violence.." His eyes darted down to her dagger in its seethe, "I'll take you, I'll take you,. But first things first: You need to know I am no longer a vampire."

Annabeth's eyebrows pulled together in confusion, "What do you mean you're 'no longer' a vampire? That's not possible."

Simon stuttered, "I- i was a newish vampire when my immortality was taken so I could still live as a mundane mortal, but my girlfriend and her brother's boyfriend warlock found a way to make me a shadowhunter, so my memories came back."

Annabeth's look changed from angry, to pitiful and understanding. She cleared her throat, "I'm sorry... that must've been hard..." She yawned, "Maybe the tour could wait-" another big yawn-"I'm a little tired.." I saw her eyelids get droopy and held her to me so she wouldn't fall. "Thank you, Simon," I say holding the now passed out Annabeth, "Can we meet up on the porch outside the place tomorrow at 11:30?"

Simon nodded, "Yeah." He waved goodbye and turned, heading up the little path to the gates. Annabeth was leaning on me, but I had to get her up the ladder. I picked her up, surprisingly light for being so strong, and put her as gently as I could over my shoulder. I quickly climbed up the ladder trying not to disturb her and opened the makeshift door. I hobbled inside and planned to find her room. The place was too big, I could barely remember where mine was so I could put her there instead. I yawned, being tired from going to bed at 1:00 am and waking up at 6:30. Soon I myself passed out next to Annabeth on the bed.
