Count-Down

My life sucks

My family was perfect.
Seriously, all we needed was a dog and a white picket fence and we'd be good. My dad's a living legend; there isn't one person in camp Jupiter that doesn't admire him. My mother shares the same title, so you can guess we are pretty famous. My sister, Emily, is currently attending the Collage of New Rome, getting straight A's. I am currently working at the stables, with no thoughts of attending collage.
But, there is a dark side to the family. My dad has serious depression problems, and the entire family wakes up every night after he screams his head off from nightmares. Mother tries her best to impress every person she meets, but ends up making the entire family looks "Perfect." Emily has a nasty temper, lashing out at me if I make the slightest remark of insult. I am failing almost every class i'm in, and my right hands-ring finger was destroyed after a Pegasus trampled my hand, and my finger had to be amputated. I also have slight depression, but it isn't nearly as bad as my dads. He does actually look good in public.
"Allen! Emily! Dinner's ready!" My mom called from downstairs. I hopped off of my bed and put down the slinky I was messing with and headed downstairs.
I sat down at the dining table, with my favorite meal: Chicken Casserole. Even if our family was screwed up, dad was still an amazing cook.
"So Emily," My dad said with a mouthful of casserole. "How's college?"
Emily put down her fork. "Fine. How's depression?" She asked. I couldn't tell who, but someone kicked Emily under the table.
Emily started to innocently twirl her black hair, her blue eyes piercing my dads soul.
"You do not talk to your father like that!" My mother said, gritting her teeth.
"It's true! Why do we have to pretend we are so great? We aren't!" Emily said, throwing her fork at my dad.
If he didn't have amazing reflexes, he'd be wearing an eye patch for the rest of his life. The fork lodged itself into the counter top behind him.
My dad just sighed. "Emily, calm down. Dad feeds you, and gives you clothes, and money, and-" Emily cut me off.
"I'm going to Zero's house!" She yelled, running out the door. Zero was my friends nick name. His names Patrick, but Emily started to call him Zero when he became "Nothing" to her. The nickname stuck, and now a lot of his friends call him that. Of course, Emily became best friends with Patrick after their little argument ended.
"Allen," My mother started, fixing a loose strand of my shaggy black hair. "Could you please get your sister?" I sighed and got up from the table.
As I was walking out, the last thing I heard my dad say was "Legacies." It was true. Emily and I were Legacies, but my dad and mom never told me who our ancestors were.

And that's when the volley of arrows blocked out the sun, heading straight for me.
