I Learn to Forgive

Ethan's POV

Tommy didn’t move.

I told him to run, to get away from me, because I knew something awful was going to happen. Either I was going to explode into black energy from that thing touching me, or I was going to go on a murder spree. But shockingly, after thirty seconds, I hadn’t done any of those things.

But Luke was about to.

He roared in anger and sprung to his feet, drawing a sword out of thin air. With a searing pain in my mind I remembered that sword, the sword that he had used before he turned into Kronos: Backbiter.

But as soon as he was on his feet, Chiron ripped the doors open, which should have been impossible with the barricades on them and shouted,

“Get out! Now!”

Tommy needed no further invitation. He grabbed Charlie and dragged him out of the room as I got to my feet slowly, and drunkenly. I saw with horror that Charlie had not taken being thrown across the room very well as his head was bleeding and his neck was one massive bruise.

After Chiron secured Charlie, Tommy grabbed me and picked me up, throwing me over his shoulder. I had no idea where he was getting the energy, it must have been adrenaline. He dropped me outside the arena and Chiron put me on his back. Then, we flew like the wind to the Infirmary.

“Help them!” Chiron ordered, and then he sprinted back, his horse legs flying, to help Tommy fight Luke.

Suddenly, two sets of arms grabbed me and set me onto my Infirmary bed. Over the last few weeks, it really had become my bed. I had spent over two weeks non-stop in that bed. Now, I had a horrible feeling that this was the end. I was dying.

I knew what to do. After the two Apollo medics ripped open my Camp shirt and saw my Black Spot, and how my veins had turned completely black, one of them put her hand on my forehead. I thought she was checking my temperature, but her eyes were shut tight, like she was praying. After a few seconds, looking disappointed, she opened them, and her eyes seemed to tell me what I already knew: I was going to die.

But I knew what to do. I grabbed the medic softly by the collar and told her,

“Get Percy. Please. I need to talk to him.”

The girl nodded, and sprinted out of the Infirmary. The other medic was checking on Charlie, but the son of Hephaestus was already on his feet and bandaging himself. He looked pissed, and there was a fire in his eyes. But I had heard the rumor from Leo.

“Hey,” I told him weakly, my chest rapidly seizing up from the black poison inside of me, “don’t be brash. You have a girl to live for, you know. I have nothing. I should be out there kicking Kronos’ ass.”

He looked at me in quick astonishment, and then seemed to realize that his secret had been spilled.

“Don’t worry,” I told him, “I don’t think Leo’s told anyone else. Stay. You might want to hear what I have to say.”

I looked into his eyes, and I wasn’t pleading with him, but in my heart, I knew that it would be sad if he died the night before he was supposed to go anyways. Besides, he had already redeemed his soul. I should be the one risking my life.

“Fine,” He said, and drew his war hammer, “At least I’ll die protecting you. I have no idea how Chiron’s doing with the rest of the group, so let’s hope they hold him back or else…”

“All right, this is the final straw, Nakamura! I swear, if you wanted to pick a fight right before you died, you could have told me without dragging Hope out of the Infirmary and into danger!”

I was silent. I looked at him with a level head, and he realized that I didn’t want to fight him. I was surprised to find that he was in full battle armor, but then I realized that the entire camp was now probably in armor. Times were dark, I guess. I never really realized that this could be the end for all four of us.

“Percy,” I said, my throat now really constricting as I got closer and closer to completing what all four of us had been trying to do for the entire month, “come here. I need—need to tell you--AARGH!”

I shouted in pain as every artery in my body exploded into fire. I was paralyzed, jerking like I had been tazed. But in my mind, I fought for control, and eventually, even though I was spazzing out, I grunted,

“Come here!”

The son of Poseidon obeyed, and leaned in. I took a deep breath, or, as deep a breath as I could with all the poison in me, and whispered,

“Percy, you gave—gave me everything I asked for. You gave the minor gods recognition, and I—I was stubborn enough to come back to life after you granted my wish and I died. I’m sorry for anything I did against you, and I—forgive you. I forgive you, Percy Jackson.”

Then, I spasmed again and my mind was transported, one last time, to the interrogation room.
Line

“YOU IDIOT!” the Lord of Time screamed at me, seemingly as I teleported onto the ledge. Yeah, I said the ledge.

The interrogation room used to be the other sanctuary between Life and Death, and now, it had been ripped apart. Gone were the two sided mirror, the metal table, the rusty chair and the flickering overhead light. It was now just two ledges and two doors, one on the Life side, and one on the Death side. When I looked behind me, I groaned.

“Great,” I told myself, “I’m on the wrong side.”

“You,” Kronos said, laughing, “have always been on the wrong side. Ever since you made friends with that Doyle boy, you were doomed to be on the wrong side. And now, now that I have you in my clutches and Erebos controlling Luke—”

“What?” I asked incredulously.

Kronos just grinned evilly.

“I killed Ouranos when I was just a boy, Nakamura. Erebos has been my faithful lieutenant ever since. He’s been dying to get into the mortal world. Funny, I promised him a mortal form. I lied. Guess he’ll have to wait another thousand years.”

“Then why do you need me?” I asked, trying to stall and come up with a plan at the same time.

“Because if you’re here,” Kronos explained, “you can’t redeem your mortal soul in the Upper World. Which means I win. Which means goodbye to you.”

He grinned evilly again, and the simplest, most awesome thought came into my head. I knew how to redeem myself.

“Kronos, Lord of Time, King of the Titans!” I boomed, trying to sound like Charlie.

“What now, you insolent human?” He asked, barely annoyed.

“I forgive you of all offenses you have committed against me, my friends, my family, the Gods, the Giants, and any other being. I, Ethan Nakamura, your lieutenant who tried to betray you, who you have done nothing but abuse, forgive you.”

“NO!” Kronos screamed, and the two ledges were obliterated.

Notes

Finally I got my act together and decided to update. School sucks, and I guess I never got around to it. I also don't want to end this story. But never fear, there should be a few more chapters left. Comment what you thought of it.

Enjoy,
Grafon
