The new Goddess

42. Finn

The next morning I woke up around 11:30 am. It felt good to sleep that long after sleeping in a cave or in the woods.
I yawned and looked around the cabin. Everyone was gone of course. I looked at Alex bed and hers was also empty. Apparently she wasn't as tired as I was. Then I saw her bed was empty empty. Her backpack was gone and she'd left the place like no one had ever slept there.
Without thinking I ran outside and bumped into the one I needed. 'Abby!' I said panicked. She gave me a weird look.
'Ehm trousers?' She said.
I looked down. In my panic I'd totally forgotten I was still in my pajamas. 'Wait here.' I said running back inside my cabin again. I put on some clothes and ran outside.
'Yeah?' She said.
'Shes... She's gone!' I said.
'I guess you're talking about Alex now?'
'Yes! Yes I am! Do you know where she is? She told me she would leave this afternoon... But apparently she lied..'
Abby put a hand on my shoulder. 'Don't be angry at her. She told me she didn't want to say goodbye to you... Maybe it's better like this.'
'Do you know where she went?' I asked Abby. 'Please, I need to find her.' I begged.
'I- I'm not sure if she's still there cause she left a couple of hours ago, but she went to the beach.'
'The beach?!'
'Yeah the nearest mortal beach.'
'Yes I know where you're talking about. Thanks!' I ran away from Abby who shook her head and borrowed a Pegasus. I guessed the flying horses were the fastest way to come at the beach. When we flew I realized I hadn't eaten anything and my stomach started to make weird noises.
Ignore it, I told myself, and that's harder then you think for a guy.
There were a lot of clouds today and it was cold. The perfect day to go visit the beach.
I landed the Pegasus near the beach village and looked around.
"BEACH: ->" a sign said. I followed the direction of the arrow. The village was really silence and looked sort of empty. I shivered, it really was cold and there was also a lot of wind, but it was nothing compared with the sea. It was so wild and the waves were so high. Pieces of wood got to their end by being splashed against the shore. How could Alex possibly survive this? Only a madman would enter this beach.
'Boy!' I suddenly heard behind me. 'Come inside! It's too dangerous! It's spring- tide! The time when the waves are the highest and strongest!'
I turned around, an old man was yelling at me from a vegetable shop. I smiled at him.
'I will be fine! Thank you!'
He shook his head and I think he said something like 'the youth these days...'
I turned back to look at the sea and came closer, now I could also see the beach. A few meters from the sea was a blond girl standing in the sand. Apparently she was here already for a couple of hours cause there was a little hill of sand against her leg, made by the wind.
'Alex!' I yelled running towards her. She turned around.
'Finn!' She threw her arms around my neck and I hold her. I would never let her go again, at least, that was my plan.
'Im so sorry.' She said. 'I would never freeze you.'
'It doesn't matter, I know you wouldn't. But you still lied to me.'
'Not really.' Alex said. 'Im still here right. Maybe I waited here for you.'
I raised my eyebrows in disbelieve.
She smiled at me, that was the only thing she did.
We were so close to eachother. I had my hands around her waist, and her arms were around my neck. I knew it was probably not Alex plan but for me it was the perfect moment, and maybe my last chance. I kissed her, and to my relief, she kissed me back. Her hand went through my hair and I realized it was our first "normal" kiss. It felt like we weren't in a hurry, and no one could interrupt, and it felt more real for some reason.
I looked in her deep green eyes and they told me she had to go. I looked down, I didn't want to say goodbye.
'Hey.' She said grabbing my hands. 'I won't be gone forever. I promise we will meet again. I swear it on the river Styx.'
'Okay I'll wait for you.'
'No no! Don't do that! You have to go on with your life. I have no idea when I'm allowed to meet you again. I have no idea how long this training will take. You have to promise me you're just going to live your life.'
I nodded although I actually didn't want to agree with it. 'Okay.. I promise.'
She smiled again, I just loved her smile, and she let go of my hands.
'Goodbye Finnie.' She said.
'See you soon.' I said back before she turned around.
The waves had only got wilder and Alex had probably died over three times if she wasn't immortal. I was watching her from a save distance now, seeing her getting smaller and smaller until the waves were all around her and she just vanished. Gone. No Alex. Only sea.
I sighed and kept staring at the place I'd last seen her and closed my eyes.
