Daughter of the Sky

I almost get scorched by a Hydra

The eight headed creature was coming closer. It’s huge feet snapped branches and twigs on the path of the forest. It blew flames behind me as I ran. I could feel the heat snapping at my heels. And I tripped. I tumbled on to the ground and scraped my hands, scrambling backwards and staring at the monster as it reared back it’s head to deliver the fatal stream of fire… “Awake my Child,”a thundering voice boomed like a nuclear bomb across the dense forest. “Awake.”
My eyes snap open and I sit up in my bed. Panting, I try to center my thoughts. “Just a dream,” I whisper,”It’s just a dream.” I grab my solar powered flashlight off the window sill and switch it on. I open my bedroom door and peer outside into the dark hallway. My parent’s light is still on and I can hear them arguing inside.
“But they never make it past 12!” I hear my mom’s defiant voice cry out in despair,” her birthday is coming soon, and Zeus says that it is time for her to go to Camp and train. So many monsters have already targeted her before!”

“Zeus! Is that all you talk about?, my dad yells,”It is always what Zeus wants best for Joy but how do you know if he has her best interests at heart?” “Never has he gave Joy the protection she needed when monsters came.”

“You’re right, my mom says with a heavy sigh,”It is not time yet.”

The light in their room turns off and I creep back in bed. My eyes becomes heavy and I sleep with my mother’s words, “ They never make it past 12!” echoing in my head.
