The Runner
Debris
Step one: search for survivors.
We each created our own miniature bubble of still air and began to move between piles of rubble, the others each paired with a Kiwi, digging out bodies in hopes to find someone that had held onto their pulse. There were far too many that hadn't, and with debris still flying through the air, we did our task while trying our best not to join the growing pile of unmoving bodies.
Five still pulses passed until I finally found a wrist that met me with a strong beat. I pulled a plank tangled in barbed wire off of a girl who couldn't have been much older than me. I didn't recognise her but her face and arms were bleeding profusely and the only feature I could really make out was her blonde hair.
"This one's alive!" I yelled out.
"So is this one!" Chris replied.
There were more and more pulses found among the wreck and we did our best to help them into the sturdy Apollo cabin where they could be taken care of. We then did the rounds of each of the cabins, checking up on everyone and ensuring their wellbeing and mostly procrastinating moving on to the dreaded step two.
But soon we had checked every cabin and we had no other option but to face the next bullet-point on our plan.
Notes
I wrote the ending yesterday and it felt both good and terrible at the same time-Phoebe :)
