Behind the Shadows

A delightful Family

No Transport, No phone, and no family. That was the joys of being a demigod and it made Sapphire want to scream. After leaving the camp a problem occurred. Sapphire would have to walk to new york. No one noticed her walking at the side of the road. Hours passed and the sun disappeared to make room for the moon. Sapphire was of age to start driving but there was never enough time. Driving lessons also cost money and that was a luxury Sapphire never had. Being a demigod was fun at times but there was times like these that she noticed how much she craved to be a normal person with a normal life. At School it was easy for her to put on a mask and act like a normal teenager, but once the final bell rang and there was no home to go and the mask would slip. She would find herself enjoying watching all her classmates. They would talk about normal things and it was obvious that they felt safe and happy. That was because they never had to worry about monsters and selfish gods. Even in school Sapphire had problems with monsters which of course soon led her to being thrown out of school. The teachers never blame the monster even when it always was the truth.
Sapphire scrunches her eyes in an attempt to see what is in front of her. The moon provided little light and it would soon no doubt lead Sapphire to falling on her nose. Only two cars had passed in the last hour and both had passed without stopping. The next car that passed Sapphire had planned to throw a rock at. It was like she was invisible. The passing hours were slowly driving Sapphire insane. She even found herself talking to the trees she walked passed. They each got a kind "hello" and a reluctant "goodbye". There was nothing around her that could help her make a iris message. She would need to make one eventually because she had no clue of how to get to Percy's house. All she knew was which city and unfortunately that city was huge. Luck clearly was not on her side. A mobile phone would come in great at this moment in time.
The sky was glowing red with the rising sun. Red sky in the morning, sailor's warning. Oh great just another thing to worry about. Sapphire sighs and rubs her cold hands together. Her stomach growls and she tells it to shut up. A rumbling noise comes from behind her and it slowly get closer. It would be the first car she had seen in hours. The car passes her and comes to a stop not far in front of her. Sapphire stops in her tracks and looks around her as though she is waiting on someone to pop out and shout "Only joking" before making the car disappears. Nothing like that happens though. The car remains where it has stopped and Sapphire walks towards it. Its a large car and is a very bright orange. It screams family car. Her heart feels like it might give up on her. The closer she gets the more she wants to take out her sword and demand why this car has stopped. She stops in front of the drivers door. Its is a family car and inside sits a whole family chattering and smiling. The dad who sits in the driver's seat rolls down the window and beams at Sapphire.
"Need a lift?" The dad chirps. His friendliness makes Sapphire want to run for the hills. All she can do is nod and before she can take her next breath the dad has hopped out of the car and has a car door open for her. Sapphire slowly gets in the car and smiles awkwardly at each person inside. Two kids sit in the back with her. Two young girls. The mother sits in front and turns her head to give a huge smile to Sapphire.
"Hi there, I'm Lila" The mother says with a lot of enthusiasm. Sapphire quickly glances at the door she sits beside and checks for child locks. Luckily there is none because the car is a little old for it. The mother does not notice Sapphires tenseness.
"I'm Clarisse" Sapphire lies and returns a smile. The mother nods and turns her attention back to the front.
"I'm Katie and this is my sister Amber" The little girl next to Sapphire speaks up. Sapphire looks down at the girl and smiles.
The ride is pleasant and is filled with small talk. They reach new york in no time and Sapphire gives them the street she needs to go. Everything seemed to be running smoothly. However that does not last long. Sapphire glances down at the floor and holds back a gasp when she sees green slime coming out of one of the Katies shoes. Its tempting to pretend she has not noticed but then her eyes land on the girls face and it bubbling. Steam comes off of her face and it becomes obvious that Sapphire is sitting next to a monster. It's not just Katie who is a monster. The whole family now has bubbling faces and strange green slime. Sapphire takes a deep breath. She grabs the door handle and yanks at it but of course it locked. Her hand grabs her sword and she yanks it out. Amber and Katie start screaming. Well not exactly screaming more like the noise of a distressed cat. Sapphire ignores them and smashes her sword on the window with enough force that it shatters and falls on Sapphire lap. Its painful and it makes Sapphire yelp. The 'parents' have now noticed that Sapphire is trying to make her escape. The car speeds up and races down the street. Sapphire panics and yanks her hood over her head for protection for what she is about to do. She tears off her seatbelt and scrambles throw the window. Katie and Amber make a grab for her legs but Sapphire kicks them away with a hard force. Their hands leave a large gunk of slime behind on her legs. Sapphire groans and throws herself out of the window. The force of hitting the ground from falling out of a speeding car hurts more than Sapphire had originally thought it would. She screams and rolls over on her side to hold her sore arm. Her arm hurts the most. It feels broken. No one seems to notice Sapphire on the ground. People walk past and not a single person looks down at her.
It takes awhile before she can get back on to her feet.
The city is now at it busiest time and the crowds makes Sapphire dizzy. There is no sign of the orange car full of monsters and Sapphire hopes she never has to see it again. A park sits behind her and it holds a large fountain. Her first step would be to make a iris message to find out how to get to Percy's house.
