Behind the Shadows

"So what you are saying is that camp half blood is going through an apocalypse faze" Percy says as he carries two glasses through to the sitting room.Olivia has made herself at home on the couch with her feet up on the coffee table. Sapphire frowns at her and shakes her head. Causing Olivia to pout and remove her feet from the surface. "Also, you ran away to create an army of demigods to take on like a few dozen miner demigods. You also adopted a ten year old girl who looks like she has consumed an ocean of sugar"
Sapphire nods her head and sits down next to Olivia. Percy takes up the couch across from them. Olivia snaches one of the glasses and gulps it down.
"I also confessed my undying love to Clarisse but that does not matter" Sapphire adds in. Percy laughs.
"I would of liked to of seen her reaction!" Percy sniffs the air like an animal. His eyes grow large and he springs into action. He runs across the room and disappears somewhere.
Olivia hiccups before she finishes off the rest of her drink. Sapphire chuckles and takes the glass away from the girl before she drops it. A whiff of something burning comes in to the room. Sapphire and Olivia look at eachother with matching frowns. Sapphire gets up and walks out of the room. Following the smell, she is led into the kitchen. Percy is dancing about waving his hands over a smoking pan on the cooker. Sapphire leans on the doorframe and restrains herself from laughing.
"Is there a problem" She asks and glances from the pan to Percy. Percy huffs and switches the cooker off.
"I was trying to make some pasta for you guys" Percy growls and grabs a tea towel to wipe up the bubble water that had exploded out of the pan. This a mistake of course because now the tea towel is burnt.
"You're not supposed to wipe down a hot cooker" Sapphire states to obvious. She walks forward and takes the pan off the cooker and puts it in the sink. Sapphire grabs another pan and fills it with water. "Let the professional do the work"
Percy steps back looking dazed. Sapphire ignores him and pours pasta into the pan. Looking at the burnt pan in the sink Sapphire points at it. "Might be best that you clean that before you give your mum a heart attack". Percy chuckles and get to work.
"I never thought you could cook" Percy mutters as he scrubs the very burnt pan. Sapphire stirs the slow boiling pan and smirks.
"I brought myself up so I kind of had to know these skills in order to live" Sapphire says lightly but it weighs heavily on the room. Percy is silent for a moment.
"It's so strange" Percy mutters. Sapphire turns around to face him. "We are twins, but each of us has a completely different life story. I've heard about so many other twins having their own language that they use to talk to each other and other twins who know each other well enough to finish each other's sentences. We have nothing. We don't even have any childhood photos to share"
The silence that follows could be cut with a butter knife. Sapphire sighs sadly and returns to stirring the pasta.
"Sapphire!" Olivia calls out and her footsteps follow. She skips into the kitchen holding up a mobile phone. Sapphire frowns at it. The ten year old girl had a mobile phone. Sapphire had never had one, but she knew it was a little strange for a ten year old to have a phone. It looks expensive as well. "What time will we be going to talk to my dad?" Sapphire looks up at the clock on the wall. Its three in the afternoon."About five" Olivia nods and starts pressing the screen on her phone. Sapphire watches her in amazement. The phone looked so complicated yet the girl seemed to know what she was doing. Kids were amazing sometimes. Percy growls at the pan and bubbly water flies everywhere. Olivia runs back to the sitting room and the silence returns. "We don't have to have to act like siblings now that we know. We can just act like friends". Sapphire switches off the cookers and turns to face Percy. He does not look happy.
"But I want a sister. I've always wanted a sibling, but of course that had to be taken away from me by the gods" Percy growls. Sapphire sighs and moves to pour the excess water down the drain.
"Then we are brother and sister. None of that I'm the older twin stuff though" Sapphire mutters as the water splashes into the sink. Percy laughs and he dries off the clean pan. The sound of the front door closing fills the house. Sapphire frowns worrying that it was Olivia leaving. Surely she would of come through to let Sapphire know. Percy shoves the pan into a cupboard, however it does not end well. All the pots and pans in the cupboard fall out and clatter on to the floor. Sapphire laughs and nearly drops the pan she is holding. Percy drops to the floor and growls before he begins to put everything back. Sapphire searches through a few cupboards before she finds the plates.
"Why is the hallway so smokey Percy?" A woman calls out before she appears in the kitchen doorway. Percy jumps to his feet. The woman is Percy's mom and she looks very confused as she looks from the pot and pans on the floor to Percy. Sapphire plates up the pasta and puts the pan in the sink. "Were you cooking?" Her voice sounds very shocked. She has not noticed Sapphire yet.
"I attempted to but then I was saved from burning the building down" Percy grumbles. Olivia runs into the room and hugs Sapphire. She beams up at her. There is still traces of chocolate around her nose. Yes, She even got the stuff on her nose.
"I'm so hungry" Olivia mumbles. Sapphire smiles.
"Percy, what is going on" Percy's mom looks at Olivia then at Sapphire. Her expression goes from confused to very shocked.
"There is a problem at camp and Sapphire came looking for me. I don't know about Olivia though. Sapphire just kidnapped her or something like that". Percy mumbles while he scratches the back of his neck nervously.
"I did not kidnap her! I'm was going to take her back at some point" Percy chuckles.
"Whatever you say sunshine" Percy's mom stands there looking from Sapphire to Percy. Her expression looks torn. Sapphire hands Olivia a plate and cutlery and shoos her out of the room.
"I'm sorry for intruding like this" Sapphire says. No one replies. Percy stares at his mom and his mom stares at Sapphire. Sapphire shuffles on her feet nervously. "I made food if you are hungry"
"Sapphire can cook" Percy states like it is something amazing. He grabs a plate and pours some pasta on to an extra plate. He hands it to his mom. "Come on mom we should all talk around the table". His mom nods and takes the plate handed to her. She keeps looking at Sapphire like she is something impossible. She worries that she might of broke Percy's mom.
