The Civil War
Prologue
The room was circular, with thirteen monitors covering the upper part of the walls. The monitors were lit, each showing a hazy outline of a council member. A single figure paced in the middle of the room. Her dark brown hair fell in waves over her dark business suit.
"Director Terran,” one of the people in the monitors said. “it has come to our attention that one of Achaea's top agents has gone missing."
The addressee sighed heavily before replying.
“This isn’t the first time we’ve lost an agent, Councilman. What makes Castellan any different?” she demanded.
“It’s the circumstance of his disappearance and the effect it had on ARGOS’ two branches,” a Councilwoman answered. “Achaea blames Troy.”
“It was your job to monitor the activities both branches,” another Councilman commented. “You’ve let the tension between them go unchecked.”
“I believed that some rivalry between the two branches would be healthy,” Terran said simply.
“And that rivalry is on the verge of exploding!” a Councilman yelled.
“Hayden, please,” the first council member said. “We’re trying to remain calm here.”
“Oh you would be calm, brother,” Hayden sneered. “You have made this council a joke, Julius!”
“Brothers, that’s enough! We are moving away from the point!” a third council member spoke.
“Nathaniel’s, right,” Julius said. He addressed Dir. Terran once again. “Have a small squad investigate Castellan’s disappearance. We expect a progress report in a month’s time by the Winter Solstice. If there are no other questions and issues, this meeting is adjourned.”
The monitors all went dark and the floor lights flickered to life.
Dir. Terran exited the room and headed straight for her office. There was work to do.
Notes
ARGOS stands for Advanced Response Group and Operations Service. I was supposed to do with just ARGO but it sounded better with an 'S'. I'll be repeating that later on.
In case you didn't catch that:
- Hayden - Hades/Pluto
- Julius - Zeus/Jupiter
- Nathaniel - Poseidon/Neptune
I'm still thinking of a surname for them.
This was edited by my good friend, Fenrir_Glacies
As for 'Achaea' and 'Troy', they were suggested by Fenrir (she's more of the history nut than I am but I'm more into the literature). In Homer's Iliad, the Greeks were sometimes referred to as the "Achaeans". "Achaea" changed over the ages but Fenrir and I decided to stick with that for this story. "Troy", well, I think everyone knows what Troy is.
