Dinner and a Show
Dove and I decided to hold another family dinner tonight. We often did this; we think it's better to communicate with our families as often as possible and keep up to date on each other. Since Leo and Delia live on one side of the camp and my dad and mom live on the other side, and since Dove and I live somewhat in the middle of Camp, we host the get together most of the time.
It's been about a week since Dove found out she was pregnant, and she's been acting extremely nervous at times. Ever since her last nightmare. I've tried multiple times to figure out what was messing with her head, but she always pushed me away and gave me a cold shoulder when I did. I just hoped she could keep her act up for dinner. I didn't want my dad to take her the wrong way, because he'd probably blow up with his temper he'd gained after 2 years of raising Anna and I. It's hard to think that the legendary Isaac Jenkins and Reyna Jenkins are in their early Forties.
"Pass me another fork, I'm one short." Dove said on the opposite side of the table that we were preparing. So far Jack was the only one here, due to the fact that he's always fashionably early. I reached over and grabbed another utensil from behind me and handed it over.
"Is Anna coming?" Dove asked.
"She's currently trying to look for a villa in New Rome that's somewhat close to my parents house. She can't make it tonight." I replied. Anna was 19, and she was trying her hardest to move out of my parents house as soon as possible. The doorbell rang and Leo and Delia walked in, greeting each of us (Leo simply nodded in my direction... He wasn't to fond of me getting his daughter pregnant which led to some awkward conversations). Kat and Nico only stop by every now and then and usually only greet everyone before leaving again, But Jack spent a lot of time over our house.
Myles walked in a few moments later, just as the Casarole Dove was making was finished. Yeah, we could simply go down to the food court and get free food already made for us, but we preferred family only time.
After about ten or fifteen minutes later, my dad and mom walked through the door, which completed our seating charts. We all hugged and greeted each other and sat down, ready to try the new dish Dove had tried to make tonight. Please keep in mind I said try.
"is It supposed to be black?" My mother asked as the burnt chicken was sat down on the table. "I mean... it looks lovely, Dove." She looked up nervously.
"Ummm, try it. I'm sure it to be fine. Just fine. Perfectly fine, in fact!" Dove said nervously with a small laugh. She stopped and silently sat down in her seat.
"Are you okay, Dove?" Delia asked.
"Probably mood swings." I heard my dad whisper to my mom next to me.
"I'm perfectly fine. Eat, eat! Please! " She fiddled her hands in her lap.
"If you say so." Jack commented, getting a scoop of the ruined meal.
"So Dove," my mother asked. "I'm pretty sure you know that Isaac and I had Allen at around your age..." She drew out the sentence. "I was just curious... was this an expected pregnancy, or..."
"Unexpected..." Dove answered after a large gulp. "I'm just happy I can experience the joy of my son's life. More experience for me I guess!" She gave out a nervous laugh.
"Wait, did you just say... son?" My father asked. "How long have you known it was a boy?"
"It's kinda early to know that isn't it?" Leo added.
"Ummm..." Dove chided. "Mothers intuition?" She shrugged.
"Hmm." My mother grunted, clearly disproving of the child.
"Allen," my mother argued. "You're too young for a child!" She yelled in frustration. The past few minutes had sparked an argument. Leo and Isaac were threatening each other with spoons, Jack was tossing food at people, Delia was trying to calm everyone down and my mother and wife were having a heated argument.
"If I do recall..." Dove said. "You had Allen at an even younger age. And in the middle of a war!" This sparked fury in my mother's eyes.
"Do not talk to me in that tone." My mother answered. "I won't stand for this. Isaac, we're leaving. Now." She stood and opened the front door with my father in tow.
"Let's take this outside." Isaac called after Leo, who ignored Delia's suggestion and chased out after him. Jack had decided it was time for him to get back to Kat and Nico before they worried themselves. It was only Delia, Dove and I left in the room.
"So," Delia said trying to break the tension. "Are you excited for the baby?"
