Dust
Army of One
"Allen!" A female voice called. I slowly opened my eyes and looked around. The sky outside was a reddish orange, probably sunrise. I threw the covers off of my back and stood up, walking out of my room and into the hallway.
"Allen!" Dove called again, motioning to the window she was looking out of.
"What Is it?" I asked as I walked up to the glass and lifted a portion of the curtain. Outside, a large amount of New Rome's guards were lined up at the main gate, some on top of the Inner Wall.
"What's going on?" I asked.
"I don't know. I only just woke up." Dove replied. "I'm going to go check it out." She threw on her jacket and opened up the door, but I stopped her.
"Not while your pregnant, something dangerous could be over there." I said, moving her back. "I'll go."
"Don't take too long, Allen." She kissed my cheek and handed me my jacket as she took off hers.
"I will, promise." I smiled as I closed the door behind me and zippered my jacket. It was a lot colder outside than I imagined. I strode down the cobblestone pathway until I reached the large metal gate blocking off the outside world. My father, who rejoined the Legion as the head of the Inner Wall sat up front.
"Dad?" I asked. "What's going on?" My father turned around, his face grim.
"Some... bad news has showed up at our gate." His voice was leaking with dread. "Uranus is on his way."
