The Uprising

Chapter One

POV Hannah.

I sit in the tree I sat in when I was guarding the flag in my first game of Capture the Flag. It’s quiet here at Camp Half-Blood, has been since Lilly’s funeral and afterward when a lot of the Campers left to be in the mortal world. A few including Darren and I are still here. I breathe in the chill wintery air through my nose and breathed out of my mouth watching my breath disappear into the cloudy sky.

The weather calls for snow later today and this may sound weird but I definitely smell the snow in the air. I am writing in my journal that Darren bought for me as a early Christmas present just in case my Dad decides that he has time for me for Christmas or the world decides to implode when Hades or Pluto decides it has to do that.

“If you remember,” I write, “Hades/Pluto who is still out there is building this army to take over the remaining gods and goddesses against him and we are made to wait it out.”
I hate this feeling: it makes me feel like prey rather than the Hunter, which is my happy place. “Speaking of Hunting. The Hunters are after my missing Mother, where I wait until they find her or something. At this point I’m not sure what I hope for, I just can’t wait any longer. I have to so something useful soon. And there’s something else; I keep having these horrible dre-”

“Hannah!”

I hear my name called and I turn to the direction of the voice. I see Darren coming to the tree from the ground and I call out, “What is it?!”
“Chiron wants to see you! The Hunters are in trouble!”

***

I open bust open the door to the war room and I know my presence is known as Chiron looks up from the maps, Dionysus nearly falls from his chair and a Hunter of Artemis jumps and turns to me. I look at the Hunter, a Hunter with dark hair and green eyes, “Maxine.” I smile in spite of myself.

Maxine is the only person I really know from The Hunters, other than Thailia Grace, and she even extended an invitaion to join the Hunters. But one of requirements is to give up boys and I think my relationship with Darren fails me from that, but its a maybe thing if our relationship works out. Call me cold but we just started going out. “Hannah!” She says with a sincere smile, “Good too see that you’re alive.”
“Good to see you too.” I shake her hand. This was a common greeting around demigods, cause really we demi don’t know when we are going to die, but it usually happens before we turn 18 if we are lucky.

“The Hunters are in trouble I hear.”
With that comment Maxine rolls her eyes over to Darren and looks up at him in a annoyed manner. Her gaze rolls over back at me, “We are not in trouble, we’ve hit a snag and we need your help.”
I squint my eyes at Maxine and ask what kind of problems they are encountering.
She sighs, “We’ve tracked her scent down to Chicago.” She takes a breath and continues, “Her trail went dead when we entered the city limits, and-we, figured, that if The Hunters couldn’t track Artemis-”“Maybe her daughter could.” I finished.

Maxine smiled, “Yes- So, you with us?”
It doesn’t take me even a second give my answer, “I’ll do it.”
