Last Call

The streets are crowded with paniced mortals. I make sure to keep Annabeth's hand locked in mine as we push through the crowds. It reminded me of Black Friday in NYC. Except people have weapons, and some are eating each other.

"Up ahead! Look!" Jason cries, pointing. Up ahead, a bus was letting people in. If we hurried, we could make it. I take off running, my side burning. The rest follow me, eyes wide. We run up, and the driver waves us in. We enter and begin finding empty seats. I sit with Annabeth, near the back.

I look out the window, watching as a man tackled another, trying to bite his neck. I grimace and turn to Annabeth. Her face was stern, her gray eyes calculating everything. The bus starts rolling away from the sidewalk, and into the busy streets.

"We are heading towards Chestnut High School, a safe zone. If you have a sick one with you, they will not be allowed in. Any bites or blood contact will infect the host with the virus. I recommend checking yourself now." The bus driver says, over the intercom.

Annabeth gives a quick check over her body, and then turns to me. "The scratches..." I shake my head, "No, no it's fine Annie." She gives a worried look, when suddenly Piper runs up to them. Her eyes were wide, and she was shaking,

"Jason's bit!" I look, seeing the son of Jupiter, pale and clammy. His eyes dart arkund nervously. Annabeth gasps, a hand covering her mouth. "No..."

I stand, and make my way to Jason. I kneel next to him, "Hey, it's gonna be fine okay? Everything's fine. We're gonna wait this out, and then go back to our vacation, okay?" He doesn't make eye contact, just drools a bit.

"Jason!" Piper cries, flinging her into Jason's arms. Jason looks at her with a blank expression, "Pipes..."

I pat his knee, "We'll get you a vaccine, okay? Don't panic."

I return to my seat, tapping my foot nervously. Annabeth holds my hand, her fingers trembling. I hug her softly, "It'll be okay Wise Girl."

The bus screeches to a hault in front of the High School. The driver opens the door, and sits back in his chair. I stand, along with Annabeth and make our way toward the exit. Jason and Piper talk quietly, and Frank and Hazel look around with wide eyes. Leo and Calypso stand next to eachother, chatting amongst themselves.

"Let's go," I tell them, and motion toward the front doors. Police cars are parked on the lawn, and armed military personal are spread out among the roof. Two police offers stand at the enterence, scanning people as they walk in.

We approuch as a group, following the long line of strangers. It took a bit, but we finally neared the front. A mother stood with her child, her kid holding a teddy bear. He had shaggy brown hair and light brown eyes. They approuched, and one officer scanned the kid.

"Clean," he turned to the woman and scanned her, frowning, "Infected."

The woman gasps, shaking her head, "No... No! I-I can't be! My-my child! He can't be alone!" Tears begin streaming down her face. The officer sighs, looking like he dealt with this before. He pointed to a large tent in he front yard. A streams of sick people entered, accompanied by doctors in white suits. I noticed that no one exited the tent once they entered.

"Go in the tent to get 'clean', you will be reunitied with your son shortly." He says, emotionless. The lady sighs with relief, "Aw, thank god there's a cure!" She hugged her son, "You stay here with this nice man, I'll be back shortly." Then, she marched off toward the tent.

"Next." He drawled, looking at our group. He took his scanner, and swiped my body. I gulped, nervously. He took a breath, then exhaled, "Infected."
