Aleka, The Fourth Fate

Freedom, At Long Last

Aleka

Millennia upon millennia had passed, and Aleka remained chained to that accursed throne, decade, after decade, after decade, after decade.....
Yes, she had been able to interpret those visions that had occurred so long ago, and now knew so much of that world she felt as if she was a part of it. She knew of the demigods she had seen, of their experiences, the battles they'd fought, the dreams they'd had, the love they'd felt.....
She had watched them grow long before they were born, and knew that they were now here, on the Earth, walking it, and, once, even lulling it back to sleep.
She admired their courage, and felt sadness at their supposed loss of their friend Leo Valdez. They believed he was alive of course, but hadn't seen or heard of him since he was sixteen......
Something else bothered her, something that had to do with the fate of the demigods. Everytime she had tried to see events after a decade or two after the Second Giant War, she would seize up and unbearable pain would erupt inside of her mind, shattering any thoughts she had had. She had tried it multiple times, and every time she had failed.
This perturbed her, and as she sat there thinking, something happened that jolted her out of her thoughts.
Aleka heard footsteps, and not the slither of her mother Nyx's dress as she came to torture and taunt her, nor the heavy footfalls of her siblings as they came to jeer. This was someone else...... Then she realized who it was, and, for the first time in two centuries, Aleka smiled.
She turned in her seat and found herself face to face with her brother Hypnos, the god of sleep. He was in the form of a good-looking young man, about twenty-three, dressed as a mortal, in a pair of jeans and a t-shirt. He smiled at her and kissed his older sister's forehead, yet something seemed to be bothering him, and Aleka had no clue as to what it was.
He rested his hand on the right arm of the throne, and cried out and pulled it back.
"I had forgotten how badly anger burns," he said, in a voice that sounded like a lullaby.
"Here, let me," Aleka said, smiling slightly. She took his hands in hers and ran her finger along the burn. Hypnos cringed, then sighed as the burn healed, as if it had never been.
"Thank you, dear sister," he said, flexing his fingers. "I'm afraid I've come for much more than to say hello." He seemed even more anxious now, running his hands through his golden hair.
"And what might that be?" Aleka asked him. Hypnos's worry was contagious and had soon affected her, making her brow crease in concern.
"I've come to free you, at long last."
He brought out a blade from a sheath strapped to his waist. It was a Stygian Iron blade, with silver etchings on the sides. Before she could read them, he took the blade to her chains and simply brushed it against them. They melted into nothingness, leaving Aleka's hands free for the first time in, well, forever.
She looked up at her brother, one of the few that had been kind to her, had visited, had treated her like family, and now he had something that could get him disowned and, worse, make him feel their mother's wrath.
"Hypnos, how, what, I- I don't understand. How?.... How could you have possibly?.... I- I....."
Hypnos took her hands and pulled her up to her feet. "I don't have much time, and there is only so much I can do...." His voice faltered for a moment, but when he looked up at her again, she could see determination and faith in his eyes.
"Aleka, you have been given a destiny none know of, not you, not the Fates, not Apollo or anyone else. I have seen this only because I have delved into the minds of the mortals and demigods, and have pieced together many things. There will be chaos Aleka, chaos beyond compare. Night and Chaos will rule again, and only you can prevent this Aleka, only you."
"How, how is that even possible, how can I do any of that?" She was in a state of numbness and shock, and this was making it worse.
"You told me how strange you found it that you could not See any farther than now, and that is because you have a role to play that you would never have imagined. Aleka, listen to me. I know that you know even more about the mortal and demigod world than I. I will send you to the Underworld, and from there you must make the journey to Camp Half-Blood, then to Camp Jupiter, and then to those who follow the ways of the Egyptians. You must unite them all, and you must be the one to guide them. You will be known, dear sister, and you will be known as a hero."
Slowly, Aleka nodded. "I accept this, brother, as I trust you with my life. But tell me: Will Hades let me through the Underworld?"
"I believe so, as his children are also to play a part in this war. He will let you through at a price, but nothing too great, as he is the only god who knows of your existence and will be less harsh towards someone who watches the damned for such a small payment. But before you go," he said, handing her the dagger. "Take this. NEVER part with it. Press it the flat of it to your neck and it will mark you; It will hold your very Sight. You will no longer be able to See as you used to. Keep it with you always. And when you get to the camps, change your name and mask to be a demigod; we don't anyone to suspect anything."
"Hypnos, how can I ever thank you for freeing me from this wretched place, and for putting yourself at such great risk?"
"Promise to be careful, and not to worry about me. I'll be fine. I'll just steer clear of Tartarus for a while."He smiled and kissed her forehead again. "Good luck Aleka, and I hope you find your way." He took something from a pouch on his belt and sprinkled it on her head. She began to fade away. "Thank you." she whispered. She closed her eyes, and when she opened them, she found herself in the place she had always Seen but had never been.
Aleka was in the Underworld.
