Aleka, The Fourth Fate
Demonstrations
Nico
They found Alex already seated across from Chiron on an old couch, Chiron in wheelchair form, with Seymour the leopard head growling from his mount on the wall. They both spoke in Ancient Greek, which Alex seemed to speak fluently. They broke off when the three of them entered the room and Alex gave them a small smile in that way of her's, where she lifted only one corner of her mouth. Nico found himself staring at her for a moment, and blinked and turned his attention to Chiron, who was introducing Alex to Lou Ellen.
"Alex, this is Lou Ellen, head counselor of the Hecate cabin, and your half-sister."
"Hi!" Lou said, grinning. "So, Alex," she said, taking a the seat next to her, leaving Nico and Will to seat themselves on the spare couch. "Where are you from?"
"Brooklyn,"
"So you've been here a while?"
"Yeah, quite a while, actually."
"And how do you know you're a daughter of Hecate?"
"I was being chased by a hellhound, and out of nowhere, it crumbled to ashes. I turned around and there she stood, just as I'd always dreamt her to looking like. Her dress, her eyes, her torches. She smiled at me and told me I was her daughter, a daughter of the Mist."
"Have you ever done anything with your powers?" Lou Ellen asked.
"Sure, but once or twice it malfuctioned and blew up in my face. I have the markings and burns to prove it." she muttered. "I started doing simple things at first, but I learned pretty fast."
"Can you give us a demonstration?"
At this, Alex grinned, to reveal oddly sharp incisors, which Nico found to be kind of cute.
"My pleasure. Can we go on the porch, if you don't mind?"
Aleka
Aleka wasn't lying when she said she had tried magic and it blew up in her face, as most of escape attempts from her chains ended her up with severe third degree burns. She missed magic so much it hurt. Manipulating something as simple as the Mist was nothing, but what she was about to do would have to both grab her sister's attention and to understand her problem, and for the camp to believe that Alex was indeed a daughter of Hecate.
She lead the way out the door and once everybody was out, looked up and smiled. Why Aleka was smiling so much today was beyond her. Perhaps it was the fresh air she breathed, or the fact that she was free, working to protect the known worlds, but free. She pictured what she wanted to appear and, concentrating, snapped her fingers.
A beast formed, larger than the Big House, it's skin made of ashes, it's eyes glowing like hot coals. It reared its ugly head and roared, a sound that made everyone clap their hands to their ears, but Aleka didn't even flinch. She walked forward and held out her hand. The huge beast regarded her with its fearsome appearance and bent it's head, letting Aleka stroke it. It made a growling sound deep in its throat, that could be roughly classified as purring. It gently pushed it's head forward, nuzzling her hand with the same odd contentedness as before. People were starting to gather round, pure shock displayed on their features, some even drawing weapons.
Aleka laughed softly to herself. She had convinced them.
After rubbing it's forehead one last time, backed away and snapped her fingers again. The moster turned into Mist and disappeared, leaving nothing behind but stunned silence.
Aleka turned and walked back onto the porch, where she saw the faces of Lou Ellen, Will, Nico and Chiron slack with disbelief.
"What the hell was that?" Lou said weakly.
Aleka shrugged. "Beats me. It just came to me and I made it a temporary reality."
"It is clear you have great power Alex, and are very skilled in how to use it." Chiron said, recovering, and looking at Aleka with newfound interest. "Tell me how old are you?"
"Nineteen."
"And you've been doing things like this since?....."
"Since I was fifteen."
Will whistled. "Wow. That's pretty freaking amazing."
"Thanks."
"You've been on the run that long?" Nico asked.
"Pretty much."
"Well then, Alex, welcome home." Lou Ellen smiled at her, and her started to grin as the holographic like symbol of Hecate, two crossed torches on a misty white background, appeared overhead, claiming Aleka as her daughter, or, Alex, at least.
Aleka felt relief course through her. Her sister had come through.
"Come on, I'll help get you settled." Lou Ellen then swept her away, giving her a tour of the camp, explaining all it had to offer, and Aleka nodded from time to time, but all that was on her mind was how to move from here, now that she had successfully passed herself off as a demigod. Oddly, Nico's smiling face popped into her head, but she pushed that away. 'Don't be ridiculous, Aleka. You're here to save the universe, not daydream.' Yet she couldn't help but think of the way he had looked at her, and, again, felt herself smiling, ignoring Lou Ellen's peculiar expression.
