The Hope in Our Scars

Chapter Ten (third point of view)

Being singled out from the others, Leo Valdez reluctantly followed the leader of the Camp into a small chamber, that eventually took them into a war room. Reyna, who was in front of him, stopped in the center of the room, and began to pace. First slow and steady, and then she started to go faster, jogging in place.
She paused. Her beautiful brown eyes landed on me, and penetrated my skull. "Leo Valdez," her voice, clearly defining who was the one in charge, "do you remember anything about your past?"
Leo had no such thoughts that he remembered. He had ofcourse some snippets but they seemed to personal to share. After all, who would answer to a nosy girl's questions only after meeting her.
"No," he replied without thinking.
His answer seemed to make Reyna think again and pace. "Do you remember anything at all? Your parents? Your friends? The fact that you still have a gir-"
A clang from outside made Reyna stop mid sentence. Another girl had entered the room. This time it was a girl above his age, with red hair, freckles, and had a wrapped towel around her body, with water dripping from her trails.
"The shower here sucks," the girl said in disgust, ignoring the fact that she was rudely addressing her camp leader, and was in front of a guy who could easily see what was behind her towel.
Her eyes landed on Leo as well as Reyna, making her cheeks reflect the color of her hair. "S-s-sorry," she stammered. But Leo couldn't help but see some recognition in Rachel's eyes as she stared at him like they had known eachother since childhood.
"Wow," said Rachel, trying to change the subject. "I didn't know Leo was coming in for a visit. Did you yet tell him Reyna?"
Reyna, who stood still, too horrified to speak.
"Okay, do you want me to tell him, or-"
"No!" Reyna's voice once again clearly projected across the room. "I will do so, at another time."
Her eyes landed on Leo, and reflected what looked like pity and sympathy.
"For tonight, you will stay with me at Bellona's cabin." she said in matter of fact tone.
Leo nodded though he wasn't clearly sure of what she meant.
"But," said Rachel. "That would just be you and him, and Leo's already the chil-"
"No more," silenced Reyna. Her eyes now adjusted on Rachel, who was on the verge of tears and ultimate confusion.
"Go tell Frank and Lily about this," she ordered. "Lily will be staying at Percy's cabin tonight."
Rachel's eyes widened at this news, but nodded obediantely.
Leo throughout all of this, watched Rachel scuffle out of the room, one hand on her towel, the other on the door knob. Reyna patted her hand onto his shoulder, which strangely made Leo feel warm and satisfied.
"Come with me," said Reyna, "we shall feast with the praetors and council members. You can trust me with your heart."
