Silent Starlight

"Aww," I groaned as my head hit the bronze neck of Festus. It was damn careless of me to have dozed on a flying dragon. The sky was dark and looked like 7:00 in the evening. I rubbed Festus's shoulder and he responded with an odd, metallic purr. Odysseus's crystal astrolabe gleamed in the glass panel I had specially built for it.
"Good, you're awake, Valdez." Calypso chimed as she slid her arms around my neck. Her breath smelt like warm cookies and her cinnamon hair flew around face.

"Hey sunshine! How long have you been awake?" I asked. I glanced at her reflection on Festus's neck. Man, she was beautiful. She wasn't trying to be pretty or anything, but she just was.

"Just watching....It's been long since I saw all this," she said. "And don't call me sunshine."

"Will you kiss me sunshine?" I asked, smiling crookedly.

"Don't push your luck, Valdez...I still hate you for loving me this much." she said as she kissed me.

"Look!" I cried as meteors showered around us.

"Space rock," she said. "This isn't right. Ogygia isn't supposed to be in contact with the outer world. That means...I love you, Valdez! You FINALLY broke the curse!"

"Yep! That's Team Leo." I crowed. "Hey, Sunshine..." I said as I caught a burning meteor and cooled it.

"Leo!" Calypso cried, her voice full of concern.

"Don't worry, Sunshine. Fire is my playmate." I said. But...something was wrong. The meteor was now cold and I handed it to Calypso and yet it still shone. I caught another. This one was covered with slimy moss...but a glowing, luminescent moss. They looked a lot like Calypso's moon flower.

"These are mosses. Plants...Living plants. But how can plants survive in space?" She asked and then answered her own question. "This means there's life out there...Life beyond even the Olympians' reach."
This was all too much to take in. I was utterly, miserably confused. Just then, Festus creaked "Kam-pp-h!"
I looked down and beneath the turf of clods lay Long Island Sound. I'd made it. We'd made it. To the 'island no man found twice' and back. But I wasn't happy... After what I had just witnessed, I couldn't be. Deep down, I knew trouble was brewing, This time not just on Earth.. but in the void beyond the gods' reach too...
