Of Vines and Men

Eight

Calum was supposed to meet me by his cabin, but I figured he had gotten distracted while training. Twenty minutes passed, and I was already impatient. Though, I knew how he was right after training. He usually ran the long way back, and a few campers probably wanted to talk to him.

Boom, I fell asleep. Normally I wasn’t that tired, but I was pretty sure I still had a concussion from when Clairisse hit my head. Sleep wasn't the best idea but, hey, it happened anyway. Someone was shaking me, and I kicked whoever it was away from me. “Eve!” Calum practically yelled, holding his side now. I sat up and frowned at him, looking around to see everything much darker.

“We were supposed to meet hours ago, Calum.” I crossed my arms now, and my head hurt again. He simply looked at me for a moment.

“You’re right. But something important came up.” He said quietly.

“Important? You were the one who asked me to hang to with you and something important came up? When? On your way back?” i asked incredulously. He shook his head.

“A friend of mine-”“Calum.” I cut him off, and I didn’t need to say anything else. He knew what I was going to say.

“Yeah, you’re my friend too, but he was someone I knew before you and he kinda just left. He caught me in a good mood and we were talking for a while.” He explained, and I huffed.

“Fine, but you owe me.” I poked his chest.

“Red velvet cake?” He asked.“And?”

“Cookie dough ice cream?”

I broke into a little smile, nudging him again. “You know me so well. But, you’ll have to sneak out to go to that bakery on Third.” Calum wrapped me in a hug, laughing a little, “I’ll call in a favor from the Stoll’s. They owe me.” We stayed there for a moment before I broke our hug and headed back to my cabin.

Opening my eyes to see a bland room wasn’t how I wanted my morning to go. As I sat up, I took in more of the room. The walls were plain drywall, never painted. The bed I was on was probably the cheapest they could find, but not too different from Camp’s bed. The floor was wood, and there were no mirrors in the room. A window was on the opposite side of the room, a shade over it. I got out of the bed and walked over to it, pulling up the shade. Outside I could see most of New York, a clear view of the Empire State Building. My hands dropped the shade and I took a few steps back trying to put it together. Even with my foggy head I knew one thing.

I was kidnapped.

A stupid idea came to mind; look for a weapon. The only thing in the room was the bed and a table. I quickly looked under the bed, only to find dust. Quietly, I got up and studied the table. Besides the table-top and legs, spindles stretched between the legs. Before I broke one off, I padded over to the plain door next to me. I pressed my ear against it and strained to hear anything. All I got was silence.

I grabbed one of the spindles and kicked a leg it was connects to. The sounds of it breaking could’ve alerted someone if they were just outside my room. Luckily nobody came in as I broke the spindle form the other leg. I turned the table around and did the same on the other side. By now, footsteps were coming closer. The sharp, jagged edges, were good enough for weapons. I wielded them and waited until the steps got closer. As they were about to open the door I turned the handle and kicked it open, meeting whoever was on the other end with a door to the face.

Luckily my concussion must’ve gone away quickly, since I felt fine running. I kicked the man behind the door and shoved him into the wall. I had a longer reach with my legs, so I landed a roundhouse kick to his head. He crumpled to the floor and I kept running down the narrow hallway until I came to an abrupt stop. A large living room sat before me and a tall blonde sitting on the couch with his back to me.

“You’re awake?” He asked, standing up to turn around. I couldn’t exactly place who it was until I saw the familiar scar running down his eye. “Luke.” I growled, feeling more anger well up inside my stomach.“No, I’m Santa Clause.” She rolled his eyes stepping around the couch to get closer to me, “That’s not a very good weapon, Eve.”“You think I don’t know that?” I snapped back, earning a small laugh.
“You probably know we’ve taken your sword.” He shrugged, and I shoved him back a few inches. As I was about to hit him with one of the wooden spindles he shoved me into the wall and his hand went to my neck. Air was getting harder to take in, and he could tell.

“You.... Asshole.” I spat, trying to get my breath.

“You want those to be your last words? Huh?” He pushed harder for a second, and I coughed out. He let me go and stepped back. I could feel his eyes on me as I crumpled to the floor in a coughing fit. After a minute I looked up through my hair, and he was frowning down at me. “You should sleep with a shirt on.” He states plainly.

“It gets too hot in my cabin. A sports bra is fine.” I cough, leaning on the wall as I breathe heavily. “You know, I had to tell Mason to back off. We were kidnapping you. Not, well, sexually assaulting you.” He started, cringing a little.

“It’s not my fault he only thinks about getting laid.” I glare at Luke, harder. Luke simply rolled his eyes.
“He reminds me of Zeus in that way.” He said, “So when he guards, wear a shirt. It will do everyone a favor. And help you out.”

He walked out towards the living room, and I followed him. He tossed some huge flannel back at me and I pulled it on. I had been cold before...

“I have a proposition for you.” He said, sitting down. I sat in a chair across from him, frowning.

“Work with me.” He flashed a smile, “It’s better than being stuck in the friendzone with Percy.”

Notes

Eve

Wow! I think this is the longest chapter I've written. Probably because I want to hold you guys over.....
Yep! For the end of May and possibly the beginning of April, this story won't have updates. This is because of one word I dread. Oh so hate. Despise.

Finals.

Yep! I'm so stressed about it but I wanted one more chapter before I dive in.

TYSM GUYS!!!!!!

@Constrictor
The fact you took the time to (attempt to) roast me in someone else's story

This is the worst fucking fanfiction I've ever read holy shit. It has no plot at all, the chapters are shorter then Ash (StriderBro)'s dick and it has really crappy writing that doesn't let me connect to any of the characters.
