Death

As you run your hand over the tomb
You think this couldn’t have been his doom
To die at a young age
Like a bird you had freed from a cage.

Happy things soon disappear
As if they were never here.

Her life was finally going right
Until that fateful night.

She saw her love die
Another time where she asked why.

Why me?
She muttered looking out over the sea.
Her daughter beside
Her playing in the tide
Unaware that it was her father who had died.

In the waves the girl did dance
As her mother watched in a sorrowful trance.
The girl watched as it became low tide.
Watching the water slide
Back into the ocean
The girl felt a numbing emotion
As her mother cried
Watching the ocean
