Allegiance Among Us

Family Curses and Unlucky Offers

My family tree was pretty stressful when it came to spending the summer. Every year, I'd still attend Camp Half-blood, a haven for half-bloods like us, half mortal, the other fifty percent godly. Just like most of my peers, one of my parents was a deity, Poseidon, the God of the seas. I've inherited his power of water, and such liquids, thanks to Dad below sealevel. On the other hand, my mother, was a demigod, like I was. Her name was Katherine Williams.
She was the daughter of the wisdom goddess, Athena. And if you're pretty updated with Keeping up with the Deities, you'd know Athena and Poseidon, literally have a pretty heavy brick wall in their relationship, otherwise known as, despise each other right to the bone.
When my mom gave birth to me, Sabrina Williams, lets just say Grandmother, did not approve, and she warned my mother to stay away from Ocean Boy. Though Athena deeply hated Poseidon, she still blessed me, because I was my mother's first born. But after her blessing, Athena vowed to curse any other child, who may result from another child of Athena, *cough cough* Mom, and Dad, ever again.
Well, oh the joy of family pep talk. A few weeks later came Christmas, Mom and Poseidon got together again, drank too much salt water, if you know what I mean, and boom, another set of months later, another offspring. This time her name was Cierra Williams. And guess what happened next? Yup, Immortal Maleficient, placed a curse of my younger sister, but was quite appalled, because just like any other mother (well probably all except Hera) Athena was not really a big fan of cursing young babies, and stuff associated with that.
As the years went on, Katherine Williams, began to become frightened that Athena's wrath may come down on poor innocent Cierra at any time. Luckily, for Mom, Artemis and her hunters, were looking for fresh new female recruits for their hunting group. Boom! Two weeks later, nine year old Cierra, was blessed by Artemis, and now carried the weight of becoming immortal. Athena, a bit p*ssed that her master plan was intercepted, now forbade the daughters, basically me and Cierra, from ever seeing each other, after our tenth birthday. If we were even a few feet near each other, one of us, would always get in jeopardy, and something dreadful would happen. Trust me on my 12th birthdays, because of this, my party consisted of four corpse clowns, five angry scarabs, and three hungry Cyclops.
On my thirteenth birthday, Artemis asked me if I wanted to join her hunters, but I refused. I had practically sworn myself to not become immortal, ever, because well, read the Greek myths and you’ll agree. While Artemis understood my reluctance, apparently the huntresses, themselves, were a bit shocked. Ever since birthday thirteen, the Hunters of Artemis had not been very happy about me turning down their Lady Artemis.
The air smelled of sunshine, and fresh breeze. I closed the bright blue door, of my mom’s new pickup truck. She wished me good luck this year, and gave me the left over chocolate pie from last night. I gently placed that into my summer bag, and dragged my suitcase down Half-blood hill, and entered Camp Half-blood, itself. The wooden sign glowed with warmth and familiarity.
As I entered into my second home of the year, a friendly face popped from one of the trees. I almost yelped when Felicity bounced from behind the trees, and embraced me into one huge bear hug. Felicity Hayes, had flawless blond hair, and the most outgoing glow in her eyes that I have ever seen. Her warm brown eyes reminded me of the hot chocolate the camp served, whenever I came sometimes during winter break. Since we were nine year old girls, Felicia and I had been best friends, and we planned to keep it that way for the rest of our lives.
“Hey, hey, hey,” Felicia chirped like the morning robin that always sung in the mornings outside of my cabin window. “How’s it been, girl friend? Well, see you’ve been having a great year! Anything new? Any boys in particular?”
I rolled my eyes, and shook my head. “Not this year, Feli.”
Felicia pretended to be disappointed. The daughter of Aphrodite was romance obsessed, she would not stop blabbering about which boy she’s been crushing on, whose the latest couple, and she was an obsessive book worm like I was. We would not stop fangirling about this current series we found online, the Diaries of 16 year Prior. It was a whole set of journals from a 16 year old girl’s point of view, and how life was where she lived, the drama, her action packed life, and casulaties of her everyday life style. Her blog had started a few months ago, and ever since then, it’s become viral. Almost 3 million views.
“So do you know where we’re going this year!” Feli squealed. “Chicago! We’re going to Chicago, Sabrina! THE Chicago, where Diaries of 16 Year Old Prior lives! Isn’t that totally amazing?!”
True. It was all over the net. Based on rumors, the block buster famous journals had all been posted from this one pinpoint location, Chicago, Illinois. Many fans of the series have been going to Chicago in furious numbers. Even Feli and I have been psyched about going for months.
“Oh my Gosh, Feli! I can’t believe! Is Chiron seriously letting us go this year?” I asked, not being able to contain my excitement any longer.
Feli bit her lower lip. “Well…” she played with her right fingers. “That’s the problem.”
I groaned. “He said no, didn’t he?”
“Not exactly…” said Feli, ponderingly. “It’s just that….another certain someone had volunteered to take us to this place this year.”
My face fell. Of course there was a catch to everything.
“Are the Roman demigods the sponsors? Just because of what happened last year, doesn’t mean-“
“It’s the Hunters of Artemis, alright?” Feli said, biting harder onto her lower lip. “I was just a bit worried that you might not come, if the Hunters were leading the trip. I mean, I know you guys haven’t been the greatest bffls…”
I was on the very verge of sympathy and just plain disappointment. “Oh Feli, it’s really….” I hesitated. “I’ll go, alright?”
Her face lit up. “Really?”
I gave her a strained smile. “I will. But let me make up a plan for all of this, and you have to stick with me throughout the whole trip, promise?”
I really did not feel like spending the summer with my sister. Especially, now that, it’s been literally three years.
“Oh of course, Brina!”
Feli gave me the world’s probably most hardest, tackle-bear hug in history. “I’m going to inform Phoebe immediately!”
I gave her a tight grin. “Alright, you go do that.”
But on the inside, my soul was filled with dread. What would my grandmother think of this whole trip?

Notes

My first chapter! Hope you liked it! I reread the trilogy, so I decided on a cross-over :)
