Allegiance Among Us

My Best Interests and Friend Issues

After processing numerous scenarios, of what to say when the Williams have a sudden family reunion again, I prepared for the worst pep talk or chastisement. I finally got up from the forest floor, and dragged my suitcase down the woods, and finally into the line of cabins. I searched for the Poseidon Cabin, which were the Big Three Gods of all time, and there, I propped my stuff off, and then just took off on stroll to take my mind off being guilty and what not.
I couldn’t believe the trip would be tomorrow, and I especially couldn’t believe that Cienna was going to be there. I remembered the last time the two of us literally collided at LA. I was running from a three headed canine, and it’s owner an angry dude, with flaming arms, and she was well…hunting this rare silver deer, that was supposed to be a gift to Lady Artemis by the Winter Solstice. Let’s just say, on the way of running for our own lives, the fire dude sort of burned the majestic doe into a pile of ash, which we then had to explain to the hunters about our rather unsatisfying conclusion for our winter break.
Resting against a tall willow, at the edge of the lake, I groaned. “Why does the best things in life always comes with a catch?”
“Well is anything ever free in the world?”
I spun around, to see a lanky, tall 18 year old, with dashing black hair, and cold evergreen, yet understanding sea-green eyes that sent small chills up my back.
“Galvin,” I gave an exasperate sigh, “What are you doing here?”
The 18-year-old enveloped me into his embrace. I breathed in his smell of fresh sweat, and forest wood. We were supposed to meet in August, when the Greek and Roman camp, would come to Camp Jupiter to hold their annual contests. Galvin wasn’t supposed to see me in weeks.
“I just had to see you, Brin,” he murmured, his voice making my body a thousand pounds lighter.
“So I got the blessing of Dad to take me here, in a quick second of a blink. And so I can spend time with the girl I am madly in love with.”
I tore away from him. “But Galvin, I.”
“It’s okay,” he said, caressing my cheeks with his thumbs. “I’ll negotiate with Chiron, and I’ll ask Peyton if I can crash in his cabin for tonight. I love you, Sabrina.”
At the moment I didn’t care if the world suddenly combusted into flames or not. His eyes took my breath away, and my hazel eyes stared back. I knew I wasn’t very pretty, compared to the Aphrodite girls, or any girl who was fit to flirt or even have a gorgeous boyfriend, but he loved me anyway. I hitched my breath, when Galvin pushed a strand of my dark brown hair, and kissed my forehead.
Oh I can’t believe I’m going to have to leave you Galvin. My eyes suddenly began to water. Oh I’m very sorry.
“Is something wrong?” Galvin suddenly asked, cupping my face into his hands. “Something bothering you, Brin?”
I shook my head. My problems shouldn’t become his issues anyway. “Nothing, love. It’s nothing.”
With one last look of concern, Galvin took my hand, and the two of us went back to our cabins. The setting sun leading the way.
~~
A few hours later around 10:30, thirty minutes after the back-to-camp sing-a-long contest, I crashed onto my bed. This summer this cabin would be all to myself. Usually my half-brother, a super nice 19-year-old guy named Henry, would share a room with me, but this year, he was at New Rome, meeting with other children of Neptune, and this time substituting for a centurion there.
There was a faint knock on my door, and I casually called out,” Come in.”
My heart skipped a beat when I saw Galvin, at the door way. His hair ruffled, but his eyes sparkling with excitement from tonight’s dinner fest.
His smile melted me, as he jumped onto my bed, and teased, “Without your brother, this room is messier than the Hermes Cabin.”
I playfully swatted him. Last time I left the Poseidon Cabin, I left it a mess with my belongings, food, and essentials for the summer. Picking up my summer reading book, he asked, “Ah, the dreaded summer reading assignment, starting already, book worm? I always wonder why you aren’t the daughter of Athena.”
I rolled my eyes. “Athena is my Grandmother you know.”
“Well she is my half-sister as well, you know according to myths.”
I also found it awkward as well. With Poseidon as my dad, I suppose, Galvin was a distant relative, but I tried not to think about. Greek family trees were always complex. Having a simple family without any half-half sibling, was highly rare, and unusual.
“Well don’t mention it. I don’t really want to think of my boyfriend as some kind of cousin or anything like that,” I teased.
“No need, we’re only two lovers, with the average casualties, but madly in love as always,” he trailed his finger on my arm.
It was literally impossible for me to not jump on top of him, and start kissing him everywhere.
I ruffled his hair, making it three times messy and adorable. “Keep dreaming, Prince Charming.”
Galvin sighed. “Oh your majesty, your heart is so difficult to claim. Can’t I like follow you on Twitter, and you can just admit that I love you?”
As soon as he said it, our mouths connected. At first it was sweet, and light, but soon we were entangled in each other’s embrace. His hands went up my shirt, and mine were already on his warm, muscled chest. His tongue looked inside of my mouth, and my lips attached themselves to his. I could feel his hands stroking my back, waist, and chest. Within each stroke, he became more insistent, more desperate.
But it ended as soon, as it began. At first his mouth was on my neck sucking lightly, when his phone began to vibrate. I moaned as he began to retreat himself from my body. I wanted more. More of this. More of Galvin.
After scrolling through his texts, Galvin’ s face scrunched, and he gave me an apologetic stare. “Sorry, love. Duty calls. Rammirez, is looking for me. Brin, I’ll see you in a few weeks.”
I almost forgot that Galvin was a son of Jupiter. He after all, had duties. Duties that were to be done at New Rome. No matter how strong their love was it never mattered in the end. Galvin was Roman, and I was Greek.
He gave me a full contact kiss on my lips. “Thank you for giving me this one moment of happiness in months. I promise we’ll see each other soon enough.”
But even as he burst out the door, and disappeared in a flash of lightning, I knew this was only the beginning of something. A new chapter of my life that would soon end in flames or happiness. But which one would I pick? How was my summer going to end, if I went to Chicago behind Galvin’s back?
