Allegiance Among Us

Hot Chick Magnet, New Stranger, and Chicago

In the end, I had decided on Chicago. Chicago over Galvin. A diary over love. But how bad could it be? Sure, I was going to be there for a while, but I could still see Galvin over the summer. Going on this trip didn’t necessarily mean it was going to be a Galvin-free summer.
Felicity was so pumped about going this summer. She hauled a sleeping bag, bags of food, and technical nessecities, and off we were. We dragged our stuff up Half-blood hill, and waited on the side of the road. A few campers were tagging along with us as well. Last night, Chiron had offered the rest of the camp this opportunity and other eager campers like us, volunteered to go as well. Chiron then placed a random select and picked four other kids besides us who would be going with us. In summary, it was Feli, me, our best friend Lucas, a son of Apollo, a Demeter kid named Remmy, an Athena kid named Alex, and a Hecate kid named Erin.
Lucas frowned and muttered something about capture the flag and hot ball of light.
Feli nervously played with the hem of her white skirt. “Brin, it’s time already, huh?”
I sighed, “Yeah, we’re really going to Chicago after all…”
“What’s taking the Hunters so long-“
Immediately we saw the big ball of light flying to us, before any of us knew what it was. A few feet away from us a literal scorching red traveling bus parked itself onto the road. A girl about our age with short cropped black hair, and electric eyes waved at us.
I recognized her as Thalia Grace, the leader of the Hunters when Artemis was absent. But clearly another girl, younger than Thalia, with brunette hair appeared at her side. A tight bow held in one hand, and a grim look expression evident, Lady Artemis, Goddess of the Moon and Hunting.
“Good day, women,” Artemis wrinkled her nose, “and men. We are all gathered here to embark on a journey to Chicago, I suspect?”
The six of us slowly nodded. One of the hunteresses, a girl with hair braided to her side, clapped her hands, “Wonderful. Welcome aboard guys. And we’ll be traveling for one or two hours from here.”
“With a bus?” Lucas scoffed. “Excuse me? But you know it takes a plane that long, why would a bus get us there in less than a quarter of a day?”
Before Phoebe could shoot back, Alex interjected, “You must be very low in intellect, Wayne. For a son of Apollo, how can you not notice your dad’s number one vehicle when you’re looking at it?”
“My dad’s what?”
Phoebe shot Alex a dirty look, before replying herself. “Men are so ignorant these days. This is Lady Artemis’s brother, Apollo’s, car. Vehicle. Chariot. Hot chick magnet. What ever you prefer to call it?”
“Hot chick magnet?” Lucas’s eyebrows arched.
“Wait a tad bit?” I found myself interrupting. The three of them all shot me with dirty looks. “Sorry, but you’re trying to say that, that’s Apollo’s chariot in the olden days? That’s the….Sun?”
“Uh huh,” Thalia heaved herself onto the bus. “And we’re going to leave you guys with a nasty sun burn and skip the trip to Chicago, if you guys are going to stand there like braindead zombies for the day.”
I didn’t even notice my skin heating up, before and I shook myself. “Let’s go guys,” I murmured. Phoebe shot both boys dirty looks, before getting onto the vehicle. From behind me, I heard the sound of Alex and Lucas shuffling onboard as well.
I found a row of seats on the back of the bus. The bathroom only a few rows in front of us. Felicity got in first, I followed next. Lucas sat in the window seat on the other side of us. I slouched in the back, and stretched my hands. I couldn’t believe that this was it. Chicago here we come.
I heard Lucas grunt, as someone took a seat next to him. I straightened and tensed when I spotted Alex sitting disdained. And after a while, he scurried a few rows in front. I couldn’t help but wonder why Alex was so shy when he could practically name every single mythology heroes and deities, downright to creating his own encyclopedia.
The bus jerked ahead. I could feel the radiant glow of the outer permeter of the bus. Thalia switched the AC to on, and immediately cool air, blasted on my skin. Feeling as if I was in a nice pool outdoors. The good feeling ended shortly when the bus veered to a stop. I ended up jumping from my seat. Felicia hit her head on the ceiling. Alex squealed a bit. Lucas grunted as his wrist painfully hit the bar next to his seat.
Thalia murmured a few curses, before pulling herself to the front of the bus. From where I sat, I could hear the sound of Thalia screaming at whatever apparently stood in front of the bus. A few more yells and negotiated threats later, Thalia stormed into the hot chick magnet. A handsome looking boy coming in after her. He had short cropped blondish, brownish hair, a muscled body, tall and fair size, but those stormy green eyes. They seemed to brew a storm when ever he glanced at anyone. He wore a black leather jacket, a gray t-shirt, and wore tight jeans, and sneakers. I could hear Alex flinching as this newcomer took a seat next to him. After the chaotic private scene, the bus began to function again. From the front of the bus, I could feel the palpable emotion of annoyance.
The boy stared at no one particular. Despite his furrowed brow as if he was trying to think if he should punch the chair or give a nice smack in the butt, he actually seemed a bit lost. Lucas gave me a look of wonder before shifting his gaze out the window, and watched the clouds pass by. Felicity shrugged, and elbowed her, “I feel bad for Alex, don’t you?”
I shrugged. “Well, he’ll have to accept it soon.”
Feli blushed. “Well if he was to sit with me, I’d feel a bit mysterious, and-“ Her blush grew a deep shade of red. “Rebellious.”
I shot my best friend a look of shock. “Feli!” I whispered yelled. “You wouldn’t, would you-“
Felicity’s eyes became wide. “Oh no, I meant. He’d seem like an interesting person to get to know. You know what I mean? I mean have you ever seen him at camp? He definitely doesn’t seem like any demigod I’ve ever seen? You?”
“I haven’t seen him,” I admitted. “But you can’t just like him, without even knowing if he’s-mortal,” I whispered. “I mean you have to half-deity in order to see stuff like this?”
Feli’s eyes flashed thoughtfully. “But if mortals can’t see this type of stuff, how would have Gods and mortals mated in the first place?”
“Good point,” I said. “Maybe it’s the-“
The boy in front of us, stood up, and walked up to got to the bathroom. He winked at me, before entering the stall. Feli squealed in happiness.
“He just winked at you, Brina! That boy just-“
I gave Feli an annoyed look. “Galvin, remember?” I asked.
Feli’s eyes widened once more. She added, “I know Brina, but what if this was another type of love?”
I paused. I haven’t thought of it like that. I shook my head. No I shouldn’t think like that. Galvin is my boy friend. I’m not going to cheat on him with another man of any sort, I’m not going to-
“SABRINA! LOOK OUT!” Feli’s cry was the last thing my ears processed before a sharp pain ebbed in my head.
And the next moment, I blacked out.
