The Daughter of Death

Hope and The Demigods Behind the Scenes

“If you’re a child of Thanatos, why aren’t you at camp?” Rachel asked.

“Well, in all honesty, camp seems, what’s the word? Congested” Sebastian replied.

“EXCUSE ME.”

“Oh my, I believe that came out wrong,” Sebastian laughed. He turned his back at Rachel and observed his surroundings. Sebastian sighed heavily.

“The children of death.” He continued. “They live to be free, we live to be free.”

Sebastian gave a tender smile towards Rachel.

“Moreover, we cannot stay at places we desire for too long.”

“Why is that?”

”Me, my siblings, we were born with a particular set of individualities.” He smiled. “We inherited certain characteristics that shine during death. There are thousands of emotions really,”

“What’s yours?” Rachel interrupted suddenly. Sebastian just smiled.

“I am hope”

Rachel’s gaze focused on Sebastian. Now he looked like a guy in his teens, smiling towards her. For a moment his smile illuminated the entire area. Rachel noticed that the flowers have more life. The air was more refreshing. The sun shinned brighter. This only happened for a moment, what followed was peace –peace, comfort, and security you feel that this beauty of a scene would be preserved in time and you would come back to this nostalgic feeling. Sebastian was the angel in the middle of this paradise. His features have grown, or were they always like that?

Sebastian cleared his throat.

“This is why I was voted the most suited to show you the truth. The truth about the children of death, the demigods that work behind the scenes.”

“Your sister, what does she symbolize?”

Sebastian’s face darkened.

“This is what bothered us.” Sebastian continued. “Originally, we were given only a few years to live, so our gift would not leak out of us. Ever since our sister has fallen off dad’s radar, he has ordered us to find her, and we did.” For a split second Rachel saw a smile on his face, however it quickly faded.

“We did everything, alas,” Sebastian’s teeth gritted. “She was taken from us moments from when we realized what her gift was.” His fist balled up.

“What was it?” Rachel asked hesitantly.

“Her gift, it was madness. It was the literal emotion that makes you stop thinking rationally, the immense sensation that makes you lose control of your actions! We need to find her,” he looked at Rachel. “We tracked her to this camp, after 13 long years, we can finally see our sister again.”

“Big brother,” two gentle voices whispered. Their voice was so silky it was like a ghost. Rachel had goosebumps climbing up her arm. The red head turned around to see 2 doll like Asian girl with white hair up to the ground. They looked like first graders covered in long oversized kimonos so you could never see any skin from the neck down.

The two ran from behind Rachel to Sebastian’s side, dragging their kimonos behind them, their actions mirrored, like one was a reflection of the other.

“Excuse me Miss Dare, these are just two of my siblings.” He smiled. “This is Ai, and Aiko. They are innocence.”

“Big brother,” Ai said pulling Sebastian’s shirt.

“Big sister, she is more than we expected.” Aiko continued.

“The camp is at a civil war.” The two said together.

“What! The camp?! Wait, Camp Half Blood would never!” Rachel was lost for words.

Everything was just too much to absorb. Sebastian held her hand. His gentleness ran all over her body and calmness enveloped her.

“The children of death can only interfere so far,” Sebastian whispered. “We must remain behind the great curtain of destiny. Miss Dare, on behalf of the 5th oldest demigod of Thanatos, I can promise that we will stop this civil war at hand. However, after that, your camp must be responsible for unravelling the problem with our sister. Can you keep the end of this bargain?”

Rachel let out a nod as she squeezed Sebastian’s hand. He smiled at her reassuringly. Sebastian knocked the base of his scythe at the ground and it let out a slight change in atmosphere.

“I call on the five.” He whispered.

The atmosphere darkened. In front of him 3 people appeared. A girl with an Egyptian wig of pale white, and gold plated clothes, she was barefoot holding a thin scythe with a small blade. Next to her was a slightly taller guy with white silky hair under a black fedora, he was wearing a black tuxedo, his scythe was unsheathed and the blade was unbelievably huge and curved it was almost his height. He held it in his hand as the curve of the blade rest on the ground and its tip right above his head. Behind them was a boy smaller than the one in the tux. He wore traditional short Greek robes with a cape draping behind him. His hair was uneven and long, tied with rubber at the edge so that some of his white hair fall on his face. His did not have a scythe on his hands.

Rachel stared in awe as black feathers cascade above them like slow rain.

Each demigod spread their dark wings beautifully, like angels on the ground. They hovered above Rachel. The speechless red head looked up at Sebastian. His arms were outstretched towards her.

“Shall we go?” He smiled. Rachel’s heart fluttered and she took his hands. Together, 5 demigods and Rachel flew towards the heart of camp.
