The Daughter of Death

Lexie Blake

Breakfast starts early at Camp Half Blood. After room inspections everyone was expected at the mess hall for some hearty, everyday breakfast that boost the energy of the campers. Of course, for some, a boost wasn’t needed at all.

Everything was at a general state of uproar since new campers just keep on coming. The Hermes cabin were already at it, putting glue at the Aphrodite cabin’s seat. The Ares cabin were already arguing amongst themselves, since cabin challenge was the next itinerary after breakfast. The Athena cabin was reading. The Apollo cabin was distracting them with music. The Hephaestus cabin was already bored and started tinkering. There was no one on Zeus’s table, since Jason was at Camp Jupiter. Percy was all alone at Poseidon’s table waving at Annabeth who was reading a book.

Chiron stood tall and proud in front of the hall. Behind him to the right was an empty table reserved for Mr. D. The director had been gone for almost three days now, probably on some big meeting at Olympus, no one knows. Some campers actually liked it when he wasn’t around. Particularly, since he scares the new recruits. On Chiron’s left was a table reserved for Rachel Dare, the camps oracle. She’s usually a lively fellow, always excited for a new day. There were some days wherein she’d make a huge announcement and send people to quests right after breakfast. After the whole Gaea incident though, the oracle has fell silent and un-energetic. No one even thought that would be possible for a gal like her. Lately she’s been a little bit bewildered. Almost like there was this impending doom, or unknown threat that was going to attack any minute. There were bags under her eyes. Her hair was more disheveled than it usually is. Honestly, some of the campers were getting worried about her. However, deep down, they were actually afraid to ask what’s going on.

After breakfast the campers quickly cleared out since the cleaning harpies would tidy up the mess hall. Rachel stood up, somehow weak. She had a determined look on her face. It was as if today was the day she would finally solve the mystery that haunted her dreams.
“You ok?” Piper suddenly asked. She took Rachel by surprised, or was she there the whole time? The oracle didn't know

“We’re worried you know” Piper continued sadly. She held out her hand for Rachel to reach but the red head just looked at her ominously, like she was a thousand miles away.
“I’m sorry,” Rachel blurted out. “I should know what’s going on but somehow,” Her voice trailed off. She gave Piper a look of danger. Suddenly green smoke lingered around them. It was more than before. Rachel eyes glowed bright green. Like a whole jar of this oracle stuff was finally opened after a long time of storage. Piper backed away. She wasn't scared. She was worried, worried with a mix of horrified. Rachel suddenly started to lift up the ground. There was thunder coming out of the clouds of green smoke. Campers gathered around the hall. The whole façade was amazingly and dazzlingly alarming that Piper had to get out. That was when a large echoing voice resounded.

A child of Death walks through the night
With planned deceit shall fail the light.
The strongest fall to words combined
And trust shall break the chains confined.
Through blood that’s spilt shall once awake
And Chaos rules in one’s mistake.

Lexie woke up. She was in the middle of an alley in Manhattan, all alone in the pitch black darkness. By her estimate, it was 3 in the morning.

“You know what to do,” a creeping voice said. “Follow your orders, seek the camp.”
Lexie nodded in the darkness. She began running towards the empty streets, being mindful of the street lights that touches her skin. She sprinted, her golden eyes focused on the horizon. She stopped abruptly.

“17” she whispered. Surely enough there were 17 monsters already surrounding her. Dark smoke lingered in her hands. A pitch black Stygian Iron scythe appeared.

“Can’t use” her voice trailed leaving danger in the air. The scythe vanished. One by one she took on the monsters. She turned each one to dust with calculated and careful moves. Her small structure swiftly slayed each towering monster.

A hint of sunlight broke the horizon. Lexie’s face stared at it with a burning flame in her eyes, almost as if she was staring at an old unwanted friend. She faded in the shadows only to re-appear on top of a tree 30 feet away. By this time, there were no monsters left.

The shadows of a great oak hid her in its branches. A Naiad woke up. A face of a peaceful innocent little girl was the image that greeted her. She felt her power, her innocence, and her pain. She contacted Grover and soon enough 3 demigods where on their way to meet Lexie.
