Children of the Gods

Chapter 2

My mind was kind of a jumble after running away from the monster but what was going on inside of it was something like 'oh my god'. After a few minutes of oh my god I looked over at Lyle and he took off his shoes and he had goat hooves. Now my mind was like what!? But it made sense the tin can, the limping, and why he was so infatuated with nature. I mean as much sense as that can make to someone who is completely freaking out. I started to recall what Lyle had said while we were running.
"Hey, what is a demigod?" I asked, "and why would we have special powers?"
He explained. "A demigod is a person who has one mortal parent and one godly parent and some of these demigods have powers."
"Bullshit!" Dean said a bit too loudly.
I a bit dubious asked "why would a god want to be with my mom? She is fucking crazy!"
"I have no idea it really depends who your dad is!" Lyle spat out in defense.
I was still not completely convinced of these 'gods' being real but Lyle did have goat legs so that kind of helped his argument." Why do think Amara, Dean, and I are demigods, especially Amara?" I was wondering how I Kathryn Holloway could possibly be the child of a god.
"Well to explain it simply, you smell." Lyle said casually.
Looking very offended Amara shouted, "WHAT!?"
"Well as demigods you have a scent to monsters as well as satyrs. Also as you get older you start to get on monsters radar. The age for this is about thirteen after that you get attacked by more monsters though some more powerful demigods are more powerful so they have stronger scents. I am amazed you guys weren't attacked sooner.
Me being significantly calmed down I decided to ask about Lyle's goat legs. "So not to be rude, but just what are you?"
Rolling his eyes as if he got asked this question a lot he answered. "Well, I am a satyr."
"Like the ones from Greek mythology, right? Asked Dean.
"Right."
"So about this camp that we're going to, what is it exactly?" Remembering what Lyle said earlier.
"It is a peaceful place for demigods like you to train and be protected from monsters. You learn about sword fighting, about different monsters that will try to kill you, and about your heritage."
"Hey, important question, how does nobody know about this camp and the monsters and the demigods and everything?" Dean said.
"It comes down to a thing called the mist." Lyle said looking thoughtful stroking the lack of a beard on his face.
"The missed what?" Amara said after being silent for a surprisingly long period of time.
"No, the mist, it is this weird magic veil thing that mortals can't see through." Looking a bit tired and exasperated. He continued. "Sometimes demigods are fooled by this mist and some can use it to their advantage and even monsters use it to hunt demigods."
"So, that was how those monsters were able to hide?" I asked.
"Yeah, pretty much." Lyle looked like he was starting to get impatient.
"Hey, when are those Percy and Annabeth people getting here?" I wondered
"Well they should be getting here soon."
I brushed aside the ragged curtains on the thin window checking outside the window. All I could see out the window was a rather large dog. This was strange because in the years I had lived here no one on my block had ever owned a dog like that everyone in my area had really tiny dogs like corgis and chihuahuas. Than I realized there were a girl and a boy next to the dog and they seemed to be arguing. "Hey, Lyle, is that Percy and Annabeth?
Getting up from the couch he looked out the window. At that point the girl and the boy were kissing. "Yeah, that is definitely them. No doubt about it. Grab whatever stuff you you want to bring Kathryn and we will stop at your houses and pick up some stuff but we gotta go."
I nodded kind of jerkily. "K." I ran up the stairs almost tripping in the narrow staircase. I walked over to my dark brown dresser I don't have much difference in the clothes that I wear. I packed some startlingly black jeans, some dark t-shirts, some grey long sleeve shirts and sweaters just in case. I packed some underclothes. I looked through the drawer and I found it. It was a necklace with a pair of black wings that shined blue and purple. I touched it gingerly. It reminded me of a time when my mother and I actually talked to each other we even had pizza by the lake on Sundays. After a while she just changed I could barely recognized her anymore. This was the necklace she gave to me one Sunday afternoon after we had finished eating. She told me to always keep it with me. It always lifted my spirits when I wore it or saw it. I tossed the clothes in a small duffle bag. I decided to wear the necklace. I realized I had spent quite a bit of time upstairs so I tried to run down the stairs but I actually did trip this time on a ridge and I fell on my face.

Notes

Just by the way I will be updating really inconsistently. I already had written the first two chapters a while ago, but currently I am working on chapter three so no other updates for a while.
