Make Them Burn

It's been three days since we started training. More silver weapons had been made. The Hephaestus cabin was working really hard to provide silver weapons for everyone in the camp. I had picked up a silver dagger. It wasn't katoptris, but it would do. I looked around the camp, at all the training demigods. Jason and Frank were doing a demonstration on how to spar for newer demigods who hadn't trained much yet. Nico was slashing through dummies with Hazel. Leo was probably somewhere at the forges. Reyna and Percy were sparring. Reyna was winning, of course. I walked over to where Annabeth was throwing the knife she had picked out at a dummy. Camp had a special machine that made the dummy move back and forth so it would be more challenging to throw a dagger. Since throwing daggers would be more efficient with the vampires since daggers were smaller the swords and the vampires were fast the machine had been set on one of its fastest levels.

Annabeth stared at the dummy, probably calculating how she should throw the knife, and right when it was in perfect position, she threw it. The knife hid the dummy right in the stomach.

"Nice job," I said.

"Thanks. Do you wanna try?" Annabeth asked as she went up to the control panel, switched off the the machine, and pulled her dagger out.

"Sure." I walked up near the machine and got my dagger ready to throw. Annabeth turned on the machine and the dummy started moving. Left right left right left right. I watched the dummy and waited for a good time to throw. Once the dummy was in a pretty good position I shot my arm forward and let go of the dagger. It soared through the air and hit the dummy in the neck.

"Wow, great job for your first try," Annabeth smiled. "Let's just hope we can do this with the real monsters."

"I'm sure we can," I said. Annabeth and I then took turns throwing out daggers, talking and laughing the whole time.

Jason's POV

I wiped some sweat off my forehead. I had just finished my demonstration with Frank and I was looking for something to do. I didn't have anything to do as leader right now. I saw Nico standing around looking around as well so I walked up to him.

"Hey Nico wanna have a go?" I said, holding up my sword.

Nico smiled. "Alright. But I'm gonna kick your ass."

"You wish." Nico and I stood across from each other, ready to spar. "First to draw blood wins. Ready, set, go!"

I made the first move. I moved my sword towards Nico's arm but Nico blocked it with his sword. I backed up a little. Nico tried to swing at me but I swerved to the side making him miss. We swung and blocked each other a couple times. Nico had definitely gotten better since the war with Gaea. A year ago, I could easily beat Nico, but now, I wasn't so sure. While I was distracted, Nico pressed his sword against mine causing mine to fall to the ground and drew the tiniest amount of blood from my arm.

"Nico job," I said standing up. I dabbed at the small dot of blood with my finger. "But I demand a rematch."

"Alright, just prepare to lose again." We got into our starting positions once again.

"Ready, set-"

"AAAAH!" A scream came from an Aphrodite girl. Everyone stopped training and looked to see what happened. I ran over and saw a bunch of monsters walking across up towards Half Blood Hill. They were pale with deadly looking fangs. Everyone froze, including myself.

"No!" Percy said. "Not now! We're not ready!"
