Fix You

Nico awoke with a sharp pain in his forehead. "Agh," he groaned. This wasn't new though. He'd feel pains everytime he woke up lately. Nico assumed this was because darkness was still trying to consume him. When Nico opened his eyes he saw Will Solace looking down at him.

"Solace, were you watching me sleep?!" Nico said, alarmed.

"No! I was bringing you breakfast you nitwit," Will said. "Why would I watch you sleep?!"

"I-I don't know," Nico replied.

"Here, I just got some toast and fruit," Will said, giving Nico the tray. "I figured you could eat, rest for a little and then maybe help with some patients? You can't stay in the bed ALL day."

"Yeah Sure. Thanks. For the food I mean."

"No problem," Will smiled. "See ya later, Death Boy,"

"DO NOT CALL ME DEATH BOY!" Nico blurted as Will left. He then looked down at his breakfast and started eating. The food felt good. He hadn't eaten much since he came to the infirmary. When Nico finished breakfast he put the tray on the table next to his bed and went to sleep.

Nico awoke about two hours later. After rubbing the sleep out of his eyes, he got up out of the bed. Before leaving he looked in the mirror on his table. His hair and clothes were all disheveled. He looked like death. Nico wondered why he cared. He never cared about his looks. Nico fixed his hair the best he could and walked out to find Will. After a couple minutes of searching he found Will knelt next to a patient places bandages on her leg.

"Hey," Nico said.

Will looked up,"Oh hi Nico. I assume you rested?"

"Yeah. So, you said I could....help with some patients?"

"Yep, here," Will handed Nico some bandages and scissors. His fingers brushed against Nico's hand and he immediately felt warmth in them. "Cut these. I need a lot of them." Nico nodded and started cutting the bandages. Once they gunships with that patient they went to help others. Everytime they had a new patient, Will introduced Nico as "his trusty assistant." And everytime Will said that, he earned a slap in the arm from Nico. Most of the patients they visited had physical wounds, but some were going through emotional pain, like the loss of a sibling or friend. Nico didn't interfere with those. The son of Hades? Comforting? Those two things just didn't match.

By 1:00 Nico started to get hungry. He told Will that he'd get lunch for them. He picked up two sandwiches and they are in Nico's room. They are in silence until Nico asked a question that was burning in the back of his mind.

"What's it like?" Nico asked. "To loose patients?" Will immediately stopped eating and grew silent. "I-I'm sorry. You don't have to answer-"

"No, no it's fine," Will interupted. "Think of someone you really care about." For some reason Will was the first thought but Nico immediately pushed it out. It must have been because he was sitting right there. Will was hardly a friend. Nico then settle down on Hazel.

"Now imagine that person's life being put in your hands," Will began. "But you screw up, and they're gone. Forever."

Nico grew silent. He couldn't imagine that happening. It must feel terrible. "You know it's not your fault, right?" Nico said.

"Yeah, but I can't help feeling like that," Will was silent for moment and then changed the subject. "We should really be going. There are more patients to take care of." Nico agreed and they left to take care of more patients.
