Shattered

Piper opened her eyes to the entrance to the Underworld. Percy and Frank stood beside her, and she looked around. Cerberus the three-headed dog looked drowsy, seeing as not that many people had died that day.

"Do we just, run past?" Piper asked, and Percy sighed, "I'll take that as a yes." She cracked her knuckles and the three of them took off running, dodging one of Cerberus' heads. They slid past, heading through the tunnel.

"Ok, we need to take a right, and just keep going as you feel your soul filled with terror." Percy noted, leading the way.

"Pleasant..." Mumbled Frank, and Piper could feel his worry growing. She felt her own chest get heavier, like a big rock was placed on it. The tunnel they were walking through kept getting darker, and her eyes strained to see where they were going. Piper was blind in the dark, so she reached and held onto Percy's arm, and she felt Frank hold her shoulder.

They emerged through the tunnel to a large expanse that had a dark sky, but far west they could see Elysium and the Isles of the Blessed. Piper felt it tug at her heart, and she moved her gaze to the greatest area in front of them. It was pure grey, Asphodel, grey souls wandering and grey skies, grey trees and floors, it left a feeling of emptiness in her chest. A shaky breath left her chest as she took in the Fields of Punishment were a fiery red with loud wails that sounded like echoes. They couldn't see what was happening there, due to the distance. Rivers webbed around like veins, keeping it alive. Percy began walking again, and he pulled Piper with him.

It hit Piper that Percy had already seen this, when he was twelve. He had already seen all of it, and he was willing to go back to literal hell for Annabeth, the person they both loved.

"Thank you." She said softly to him as they walked, impeding doom settling in her chest.
