The Writer's Block

Keeping Your Story Going

So, I know a lot of you start a story....but you have no idea what to do with it after few chapters. Here are some very basic tips on what to do:

Starting off:

When an idea for a story pops into you head, don't just be like...OMGS! I have this awesome idea, and I'm gonna go write a chapter!

NO. Don't. DO NOT.

When you get an idea, start planning out the events of the story. BULLET POINTS!!! Try and outline at least five chapters before you write. It helps. TRUST ME.

I don't know if any of you have ever done a cause/effect essay, but try and twist the events in your story to sort of trigger new events, and relate to older ones...like when I'm writing, I throw an idea in but I don't explain it until later and the FULL event doesn't take place until later....when it triggers a new event. Or, I'll mention something that happened in the past that might trigger an event in the future.

Also: If you hit writers block early in the story, ASK YOUR FANS WHAT THEY'D LIKE TO SEE HAPPEN! Not only does it give you ideas, but it involves your supporters!

Later on:

If you really love your story, but you've stretched the ideas so far that you can't write anymore, WRITE A SEQUEL with a whole new set of problems that need solving. That way, you can continue with your ideas without murdering your initial thoughts.
