Chapter 12

Annabeth's P.O.V
I laughed along with everyone else as Percy retold the story of him beating Ares.

"So, you, a twelve year old inexperienced guy, defeated Ares, the God of War!" Leo looked up to Percy, admiration shining in his eyes. Leo's nose lit on fire as he jumped up and down, fangirling over Percy's story about Ares.

Even the children of Ares', Greek and Roman, were patting Percy on the back, a new found admiration for the Son of Poseidon. "I had help..." Percy shrugged, blushing from all the compliments he was getting.

"Stop being humble, Son of Poseidon!" Artemis laughed while looking at Ares in the cage and hearing Percy's story.

I pecked Percy's cheek, my grey eyes meeting his green ones. He gave me a grin with his blinding white teeth, about to lean in for another kiss but suddenly, there was a bright light in the room and all the demigods immediately shut their eyes.

What we saw, shocked us all, including the children of Athena and the Goddess herself.

There, in the middle of the stage, was Hephaetsus and Aphrodite, entangled in a hot make out. Hephaetsus hands were around Aphrodite's waist, and Aphrodite's hands were entangled in Hephaetsus hair.

Zeus coughed loudly and the couple broke apart from their kiss, their faces embarrassed but with a goofy smile. "I'm guessing... You both figured things out?" Zeus said seriously but his face said otherwise. His eyes were twinkling with mischief and happiness for his technically Daughter and Son.

The immortal couple nodded their head, beaming with happiness. They made their way to their seats, their hands enclasped together.

"Should we free Ares from the cage?" Jason, being the ever goody two shoes, piped up. I was still mad at Jason for playing around with his lightning bolts and striking my architecture plans, burning them to a crisp.

A chorus of 'no' was heard around the Olympian throne room and Percy cheekily added, "Besides, he'd probably attack everybody once he's freed. Not that I'm saying that he could hurt us or anything, he'd probably just fall over his own two feet..."

Everyone roared with laughter, even Ares' own flesh and blood. Once everyone settled down and wiped away their tears, Apollo walked up to the stage, signalling everyone to calm down as he was going to resume the competition.

"Alright, it's about time we continued this competition. Finally, may we have Percy Jackson come up here and perform?" Apollo grinned and my head whipped towards my Boyfriend who was sitting next to me.

Percy paled, his face turning as white as a ghost's, and he looked plain scared, terrified even. "Please, I bet Percy couldn't sing if his life depended on it!" Leo laughed, nudging Calypso who was sitting next to him.

Percy closed his eyes and took in a deep breath before getting off his seat, walking up to the stage. "Percy?" I asked uncertainly. Percy looked at me, his usual happy sea green eyes filled with sadness and hurt.

"I'm fine, really Annaneth." He bit his lip and I immediately knew something was wrong. Percy never called me by my real name unless he wanted something or was in trouble.

I looked to Apollo and guilt was evidently written all over his face. Once everyone saw Apollo's face, everyone stopped talking and knew something was wrong.

Apollo was never guilty. Not when he stole Artemis' sacred bow, not when he ordered demigods to go on dangerous quests, he was almost never guilty.

Except for now.

Percy stood on the stage and the lights in the Olympian Throne Room all dimmed until it was pitch black and the only light was shining onto Percy, making everyone look at him only. His hand gripped a microphone, and he nervously but his lip before closing his eyes.

"This song is dedicated to all those people who felt scared and could never feel like they could stand up from themself..." Percy trailed off, with everyone confused to why Percy would say that.

I saw a tear drip from Percy face and he immediately made the tear evaporate into the air. The music began to play as everyone looked at each other, confusion and curiosity written all over their face. And then, we all heard it.

It was a beautiful voice, so deep but yet so rich. And we realised, it was coming from Percy. Percy gripped the microphone till his knuckles turned white as he sang, "And the truth will always haunt me, even though it set me free. And the tears fall like the ocean, as they floated in the Breeze..."

We we all looked at the screen, waiting in anticipation for the flashback that was about to be shown.

-FLASHBACK-

Percy's P.O.V
"Anyone home?" I shouted. I entered my room and threw my blue backpack onto the floor. I waited for a few seconds, closed my eyes, and when I reopened them, musical instruments lay in front of me. I grinned, making my way to the piano.

I recalled the events that happened earlier that day. Nancy stuffing me into my locker, making me stay there for 3 whole hours. Anger and rage overtook me and my fingers hovered above the piano keys before I began playing the tune from the song, Stitches, by Shawn Mendes.

"You watch me bleed until I can't breathe, shaking, falling onto my knees..." I sang, my melodic voice echoed around my room. Suddenly, my door opened, and all of the sudden I found myself sitting on my desk, a pencil in my hand and my homework in front of me. All the musical instruments were gone.

Unfortunately, I couldn't stop my singing on time and found myself face to face with Gabe. "What do you think you're doing?" Gabe growled, his menacing eyes narrowing. "N... N... Nothing, sir!" I gulped, biting my inner cheek.

"Don't lie to me, boy! I heard you singing! Who gave you the right to?" He growled shoving me against the wall. "I gave myself the right to..." I mumbled under my breath but due to my horrible luck, Gabe heard me.

"Who said you could talk back?" He grabbed me by my Raven black hair and pulled me to the living room. I howled in pain as he shoved me against the wall, making me crumple onto the floor. He took off his leather belt, held it in his hands before staring at me.

"No, no, NO! Please, not the belt, please!" I begged, tears already forming in my eyes. Gabe gave me a triumphant grin, raised his belt high up in the air and brought it down onto me. A loud whip sound was heard and I bit my lip to prevent myself from crying.

"STOP IT!" I roared after he hit me more than 10 times. "YOU WANNA TALK BACK TO ME BOY?" He shouted back and dropped the belt onto the floor and grabbed me by my hair once again, tugging it hard. He brought me to the toilet, which smelled of smoke and alcohol.

He grabbed the back of my head and slammed it against the wall several time and I felt something wet trickle down my face from my forehead. He then turned my body around to face him and slammed his fist into my gut. He punched me so many times, I lost count.

After around 30 minutes or so, I collapsed onto the floor and he turned his back towards me, walking out the door.

I sniffled, wiping my mucus away with the back of my hand and felt myself trying to breathe steadily. Everything became blurry and there was a pool of blood around me. I groaned, trying to get off the floor but winced immediately when I got up.

I faced the mirror, looking at my reflection. Blood was all over my face, a bruise was forming around my eyes and I looked, and felt dead.

I turned on the tap and splashed water onto my face, washing away the blood. I then reached for my mum's makeup bag, in the sink cabinet, and swiftly took out all the make up I needed to cover up my bruise.

It almost felt like a ritual. I knew what to do and where to apply the makeup. This happened almost everyday just because he heard me singing or I talked back. Some would tell me to just quite singing and just not retort back but I could never stop singing. It was my passion.

I felt a huge weight lifted off my shoulders when I sang. All my feelings mashed together into a song, made me feel better. When I sang, I felt almost connected to my missing Father somehow.

I took in a deep breath, looked at myself in the mirror and smile while wincing slightly. I looked almost normal again. I tried to cover up all my bruises Everyday to prevent my mum from seeing them because if she saw them, she would confront Gabe and he would do the same thing he did to me to her.

And I couldn't have that happening.

"You'll be alright, you'll be alright..." I repeated again and again, like a mantra.

I looked up at my reflection in the mirror again and smiled. "I'll be alright..."

-FLASHBACK END-

3rd Person's P.O.V
Percy sang the last lyric and the music stopped. Everyone looked at Percy, with admiration, pity, anger and sadness.

Admiration on for him being able to go through his life Everyday, pretending to be fine just so his Mother wouldn't get hurt and being able to still stand up for himself.

Pity for how badly he was being treated. Getting beaten up just because he was following his passion, which was singing.

Anger towards Gabe, Percy's Stepfather. How dare he abuse the best demigod ever known in existence. The one that cheered everyone up and leaded them into battle, head held high.

And Sadness, due to seeing how badly Percy was getting abused Everyday and him not being able to speak up and let people know.

There was no sound heard from the Olympian Throne Room, and suddenly, Percy ran off the stage before vapour Travelling away from the Throne Room.

From everyone.

OMG THIS IS SO GOOD. I love the concept and your writing is really good as well! I love diving deeper into Percy's character and revealing more of his past. You're doing an amazing job! I'd say a sequel to this would be cool but it depends on how this ends. Thanks so much and can't wait to see what's next!
