Gods and Defenders

Mist

Even though because of his exhaustion he slept a dreamless night; Which was surprising especially since it was the night the war had ended, Percy could still feel sleep wanting to overwhelm him.
He had only just finished taking the census of the people in the Pavilion when he could feel his arms drag. Half the people were in the Pavilion so his next stop was the infirmary.
He had no company as everyone had left to do separate things. Annabeth giving Percy a concerned look before staying behind to have a conversation with Chiron.
Percy walked his way to the infirmary- stopping every person he passed and taking their name. No matter how much Percy told himself it would be fine, he was dreading having to go to the infirmary. When he stood outside the infirmary, he tried collecting his breath. He didn't want to see his friends, his family, in this condition.
Percy, grabbing all the courage he had, walked through, into the infirmary. The first person he saw was Will Solace.
Whenever Percy saw Will he couldn't help but think about the time in the Battle of Manhattan, Will and himself rushing off to help Annabeth after she had taken a slash for him. How he knew that if something were to go wrong he was going to lash out at someone. He remembered how calm he had to force himself to stay.
"Percy." nodded Will.
"Um, Hey." Percy stated."I'm here to take a census."
Will appraised Percy, up and down.
"I can take it for you. You need to sit down, plus I can get it down faster." Percy didn't feel in the mood to argue the point so handed Will the clipboard without question.
Will disappearing around the corner, Percy sat down in a chair near the front. His head felt weighted.
Ever since getting Achilles Curse Percy would only get exhausted faster even though his power of the curse had been removed.
It only felt like a few moments of rest before Will reappeared.
"I took care of all the rest of the Census, using our records of the deceased and looking through the injured as well." Will said handing the clipboard back. Percy was surprised at Will's casualness towards the case. Though, Will and other children of Apollo probably saw the worse of the death.
"Thank you. I got to get going. I'm helping with the Iris-Messages."
"Percy . . .I'd be careful. You look like you need rest. I wouldn't over work yourself." Will seemed genuinely concerned.
"Don't worry, just a simple spray. It won't drain me its barely anything." Percy sounded like he was trying to convince himself and cringed. He felt bad- for what he wasn't sure. He wasn't lying.
They exchanged goodbyes and Percy was out the door again. He ran the rest of the way to the lake, already later than he should be. A group of people were already lined up.
"Okay everyone!" Percy said, finishing up his run to the crowd. "I'll be taking care of the most urgent first. This includes desperately injured and deceased." As he reached the front of the crowd, one of the campers handing him two bags of drachmas.
Walking the rest of the length of the dock, Percy called out. "I need a person to call names into the mist and throw coins, please only volunteer if you have done this." Percy chose a volunteer that had a familiar face but he couldn't place.
Starting up a mist, they started calling off the names into the mist calling upon Iris. The first death Percy had to announce had his voice stuck in his throat. The woman on the other side seemed at first not to understand and next came the tears. Percy didn't bother with I'm sorry's knowing they did no good. Instead telling them what they knew about the camper even if it was a little thing such as a nickname. After each announced death, there would be a moment of silence.
After a bit over an hour, they had gotten through the emergency calls, the people whom were standing in line, stepping forwards to call people. Endless amounts of tears were spread as parents figured out their child was okay.
During a child of Demeter's call, Percy felt himself sway almost falling over, catching and balancing his feet, his hands still in command of the water- holding the connection. When nearly two hours had passed it happened again. Percy, once again, fast on his reflexes caught himself, positioning himself so he was away from the edge of the dock. Only three calls later Percy felt it, he lost control of the water and his body dropped. He had blacked out.

Notes

Yes, Yes I know the typical "And then I blacked out" but I thought this time it would actually be a good addition hopefully I played it right so it didn't sound bad.
